As the title says really!

We would use Eve on bc but call them Evie and Bath would be just Beth on bc NOT Elizabeth or Bethany.

I know a Beth, who is just Beth and I've never heard her called Bef so suppose it would depend on what part of the country you are in.

Grin at calling DD2 Hollie, might show a small lack of originality.

kando · 03/07/2011 20:07

DD3 is Elizabeth, meant to be known as Beth but it just never happened! She's Betty to us now! Beth would be my favourite, but I love Esther as well - know a lovely, lovely lady named Estelle ...

SloganLogan · 03/07/2011 20:28

My favourite is Beth, but only as a nickname for Elizabeth, which you don't like.

I like the other two equally.

greycircles · 03/07/2011 20:34

Beth is lovely - I think it's fine alone without being a nn for something longer.

Anna is nice as well.

I hate Esther (sorry!). I just find it strange with the h in. Also, an ester is a chemical so I just find it odd and clunky overall.

PurpleStrawberry · 03/07/2011 23:59

Esther gets the nod from me.

Eve and Beth are boring in comparison.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 04/07/2011 05:23

Esther is a lovely name and a very close family name (in my family). It has never been shortened to Essie though. Sometimes it is shortened to Est, when I don't think said family member likes much.

I love Esther.

Hedwig3 · 04/07/2011 13:30

Esther

archanat10 · 04/07/2011 13:41

Esther sounds very nice.you should go with it :)

chumble · 04/07/2011 13:54

These are three of my most favourite names for girls. In fact I have an Eve myself. Much nicer than the diminutives Evie and Eva. Where I live Evie is by far more popular than Eve so it is up to you. At a school of 200 my DD is the only Eve despite being several Evies. If you like the name use it.

Beth is a lovely name on its own see the bible!!! Again personally prefer Beth to Bethany et al. Would never think Beth would be used as a shortened version of Elizabeth but there you go.....

Esther a lovely name too.

Good luck with your choice. I would go with the one you like/love and don't worry too much about the popularity. These names are popular as they are so good. As for how it matches their sibling this becomes less important as they get older. Do people ask you what your siblings are called?

i don't like Beth - purely personal used to coach a Beth and a right sneaky little cow she was

tigercametotea · 04/07/2011 14:06

I like both Beth and Eve. Don't really like Esther.

pommedechocolat · 05/07/2011 20:17

Think we are now down to Esther or Anna. I prefer Esther, dh prefers Anna. We'll see who wins :)

I guess you could compromise on Aster or Emma! Seriously though, your final two are lovely names :)

DriverDan · 05/07/2011 23:31

Both lovely names Smile

startail · 06/07/2011 00:39

Esther - please! I wanted to call DD2 that and only got it as her second name.
I love Beth too. I'd agree that Evie probably best as the shortened form of something else. We have Evie, Ellen and Ella's to contend with and I get Confused

sittinghippo · 06/07/2011 09:55

I met a little girl called Beth last week, and her big sister was called Holly.

unclefest · 06/07/2011 09:57

Why is it strange that Esther has an H in? Otherwise it would be a chemical. I have spent my life reminding people about my h. Learn to spell. Angry. FWIW I always get shortened to Essie. I love it - nice one parents Smile

Mumbrane · 06/07/2011 10:09

Esther.

I love Eve, too, although it is much more popular.

startail · 06/07/2011 11:04

DH threatened to call DD Polly EstherSmile

pommedechocolat · 10/07/2011 13:32

Polly Esther is funny startail!

Our shortlist is now Esther, Anna and Faye.

What are people's opinions on Faye?

My mum also did total cat bums face when I said Esther to her and said it sounded like an evil sister in a fairy tale. Hate it when people rain on your parade!

  1. Anna
  2. Esther
  3. Faye
cece · 10/07/2011 13:36

Never tell anyone your name till after the birth!

Anna followed by Esther very closely behind.

Soleil3 · 29/06/2014 22:51

What did you call her in the end?
