Girl's name to go with Narnia

We were thinking 'Gondor' because that is such a beautiful city, but does it sound too masculine? Also, does it sound too much like Goneril? She was awful, so that would be a horrible name to saddle a girl with.

Going by your user name, I thought you might be interested in this elvish names site.

Merle · 18/06/2011 07:53

Wardrobe.

RustyBear · 18/06/2011 07:53

Calormen?

SheCutOffTheirTails · 18/06/2011 07:54

Susan

EdithWeston · 18/06/2011 07:56

Sorry - realised I didn't answer what you actually asked. I didn't think "Goneril" - I thought Condor. I don't like it as a name at all, sorry.

Are you definitely after a place name?

ElfDiasphora · 18/06/2011 07:59

Yes, placename ideally. But not Wardrobe which seems a bit odd.

Spareoom?

GwendolineMaryLacey · 18/06/2011 08:03

Shouldn't that be Spare-Oom. It'll have to hyphenated.

ElfDiasphora · 18/06/2011 08:04

Calormen would be ok (though she would probalby argue with Narnia!), but sounds a bit like Calor Gas so might mean she was teased.

Spare-Oom! Lol.

Lamppost?

jimswifein1964 · 18/06/2011 08:10

Ah, but I thought the hyphen made it sound a bit pretenious!

Aslanna Grin

tribpot · 18/06/2011 08:12

Well there's always Archenland. The sort of Switzerland of the planet-that-appears-to-have-no-name-or-also-be-called-Narnia. Or the Lone Islands.

How about Buruna?

RustyBear · 18/06/2011 08:13

Narnian place names:

Avra
Felimath
Alambil
Tarva
Felinda
Galma
Mezreel
Terebinthia
Zalindreh

My iPad autocorrect went nuts with that list! Is that something we'll have to consider with baby names in future - what they are going to turn into when somebody texts them?
Not to mention emails - I once got an email from someone called Lee Rather - turned into [email protected]

EdithWeston · 18/06/2011 08:17

Calormen us far too masculine sounding (and made me think of this who deliver bottled gas).

How about Emerald (City), Mandalay, Utopia, Arcadia, Perucia, Ischia, Florence, Parthenope, Shirley, Xanadu?

Justunbelievable · 18/06/2011 08:17

Banania!

sassyTHEFIRST · 18/06/2011 08:19

You have a child called Narnia?

EdithWeston · 18/06/2011 08:22

Sphinx? Riva? Ruatha? Nerat? Lorien? Tyrsis? Ista? R'shael? Irrylyn? Rillanon?

GollyHolightly · 18/06/2011 08:25

Insania. You get the celeb reference in there too!

No need to thank me.

Tarva is a star, not a place. Sister of Alambil IIRC

ElfDiasphora · 18/06/2011 08:59

Actually, I thought Calormen sounded a bit masculine too, but I didn't want to be negative about it in case I got flamed for racism because CSLewis was very racist about it and didn't make it sound like a nice place.

It shouldn't sound masculine just because it has 'men' in it. After all, 'Amanda' doesn't sound masculine I think.

Aslanna is a lovely idea, thankyou. But ds1 is Aslan so that wouldn't work.

Lots of good suggestions here. I will think on.

You had me going there for a minute! Well done.

Calormen?

Calorgas?

Gazole?

Petrolia?
