Girl's name to go with Narnia

We were thinking 'Gondor' because that is such a beautiful city, but does it sound too masculine? Also, does it sound too much like Goneril? She was awful, so that would be a horrible name to saddle a girl with.

Bree was (I think) the name of the horse in A Horse and his Boy.... is that an idea? Wasn't too keen on CS Lewis so could be wrong here, was much more of a Tolkien fan as a kid.

And yes, CS Lewis and Tolkien were good friends for a while but the relationship went seriously downhill once CS Lewis started on the Narnia books. Tolkien felt he was stealing from his Middle Earth.

(Dons nerdy glasses and tweed jacket with leather elbow patches)

alemci · 18/06/2011 22:21

what about Digory

PainSnail · 19/06/2011 00:47

The Wood Between The Worlds? might take some hyphenating though.

tigercametotea · 19/06/2011 00:56

I had a classmate in the past called Silke and it was pronounced like "Silky". Apparently a Scandinavian name.

Ivortheengine8 · 19/06/2011 16:24

Would the OP mind if I took the name 'Digory' in case I have a boy. I think it sounds pretty cool and very sophisticated. I'm going to run it past DH and see what he thinks.

Northernlurker · 19/06/2011 16:29

So you looking for a name that goes with Aslan and Narnia?

Ok........

I would go with Polly or Lucy.

ElfDiaspora · 19/06/2011 16:31

No I don't mind, though it is kind of you to check.

We already have the name decided for our next ds, if we have one.

We would hope to call him Shire (from the Hobbit's Shire). I think it sounds very calm and solid like River Phoenix or Gabriel Oak.

Northernlurker · 19/06/2011 16:33

YOu've missed the h out of that name change. Hmm

ElfDiaspora · 19/06/2011 16:35

Yes, I was embarrassed by misspelling Diaspora the first time, but I am the same person with and without the h.

ElfDiasphora · 19/06/2011 16:37

See! Me again.

BrianAndHisBalls · 19/06/2011 16:38

you namedchanged without the 'h' weird.

Northernlurker · 19/06/2011 16:39

Yes but who else are you? Hmm

greenzebra · 19/06/2011 16:41

Had a look on here, if your kids are already called Aslan and Narnia then maybe stick to the narnia theme.

Im liking Pomona, Clipsie, Jadis (even if its the white witches name) Tarva is cool.

LorettaMasonPotts · 19/06/2011 19:54

I've stumbled upon a parallel universe, haven't I? Confused

TheCountessOlenska · 19/06/2011 20:00

I would absolutely love to call my DC names from C S Lewis. OP if you are real I salute you!

Oooh how about names from His Dark Materials trilogy?

I actually had Lyra on my baby name list but DH vetoed.

Ivortheengine8 · 19/06/2011 20:03

Thanks Elf, Shire is such a lovely name too though. It boasts intelligence, genius and wisdom.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 19/06/2011 21:11

Shire is a type of horse isn't it?!

smashinghairday · 19/06/2011 21:16

What about Mrtumnus?

smashinghairday · 19/06/2011 21:16

Or, if you like hyphenated, Mista-Tumnus.

tribpot · 19/06/2011 21:22

But then when Mista-Tumnus grows up, he'd be Mr Mista-Tumnus Diaspora. Nice homage to the 80s band Mr Mister just to add to the confusion.

Riveninside · 19/06/2011 21:22

Boggle

smashinghairday · 19/06/2011 21:26

Tribpot - ah, indeed.

Though I do believe the OP is looking for a girl's name so she will be Miss Mista-Tumnus.

Mind you, she could end up being called Mista-Tumble in error.

tribpot · 19/06/2011 22:16

Mista-Tumble could certainly be unfortunate. Although I suspect Ms Mrs-Beaver could be worse? I have had grave difficulty explaining to ds since he watched The Voyage of the Dawn Treader that Eustace's name is not, in fact, Useless. So that's one bullet dodged.

Panzee · 19/06/2011 22:20

Per Una has a bit of a ring to it.
