Lydia, Tessa or Susannah

When dd was born, Lydia was the second choice and thus reserved for dd2 if there was one. Now I'm pg I'm a bit sick of Lydia. Love the name but feels like we've been there, done that IYSWIM.

So we've also come up with Tessa and Susannah...

What d'ya think? :)

Susannah is my favourite (love Susie as a nn too). Both this and Susan are on our list. Fabulous and timeless imo.
Tessa a very close second, prefer Tess, but either would do. Lovely, strong and timeless.
Lydia - love this too (you have a lovely list!) reminds me of the girl in Beetlejuice.

All lovely! No wonder you are having trouble choosing!

Is felicity an option? Similar to, but nicer than verity imo. Probably nor helpful at this point.. Nice with Harriet though. Felicity Violet.

Susannah

EssieW · 11/12/2011 09:51

Susannah! Beautiful name. Zanna is also a shortened version but I'd use the long version all the time

pootlebug · 11/12/2011 10:22

Susannah or Tessa. Can't stand Lydia - I think it might be the Pride and Prejudice association. The only Susannah I've met was occasionally called Suze by friends in her teens but mostly just Susannah, and never Sue or Susie. I'm with you on those - love Susannah, hate Sue/Susie

EatMeDates · 11/12/2011 10:23

They are all lovely names, but I think I'd go for Lydia by a whisker

Ifancyashandy · 11/12/2011 10:29

Susannah by far.

Lydia is about to become extremely over used by TOWIE fans who think its classy due to one of the characters in the show.

Tessa its petty but a but boring.

mybrainsthinkingfuckyousanta · 11/12/2011 10:45

Tess is okayish but do not like Tessa
Suzy is alright but not keen on susannah

I love Lydia and would have used it myself had surname been compatible
Also like Laura

Catsmamma · 11/12/2011 10:51

I hear Tessa in an Eastenders Biancaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! fashion

Tess is adorable, and dd was to be a Lydia but dh simply would NOT have it, kept on and on about the tattooed lady song, even singing it to the midwife who said she had NEVER EVER heard it and she was called Lydia. So it is dd's middle name, I swore I would leave him if he wouldn't budge on a middle name.

mrswattnot · 11/12/2011 12:13

Love Susanna, it is dd (who is 4) bfs name at school, she always gets Susanna, never shortened.

Also like Lydia, it's my 3yr old nieces name, I do have to stop myself shortening it to Lyds though.

Tessa is nice but does sound more like a nn rather than full name. All the named sound lovely with the middle names.

PercyFilth · 12/12/2011 00:49

Love Susannah. Quite like Lydia. Dislike Tessa.

Can't help seeing the middle names as Very Violent. Blush

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 12/12/2011 01:58

pootlebug, I might just copy what you say! I don't like Lydia for exactly the same reason.

Also, my best friend is a Susan, but has never, ever been known as Sue or Susie/Suzy; only ever as Suze.

Tess/a I don't like, makes me think of Ten Tonne Tessie whoever the hell she was.

zumm · 12/12/2011 12:39

So one more thing to add to the mix: Lydia was always a fave name of my mum (who has great taste, generally). Now, aside from the Lydia Bennet thing, when a friend was pregnant she said she was thinking of Lydia but had dismissed it since it sounded too much like chlamydia. I'm not sure that wld ever have occ to me, but now I can't shake that association. Just like Benedict (a fave of mine) seems linked with Bendy Dick. And I can now never hear Isabel- without adding '-end' at the end, in my mind (curse you mumsnet names lot).

MrsJohnDeere · 12/12/2011 12:40

Love Lydia.

Not keen on the others.

feetheart · 12/12/2011 13:27

Love Tessa but am biased :)

Have never meet another little girl in RL with the same name in nearly 9 years.
DD loves that her name is unusual but not odd IYKWIM and has very clear views on people leaving off the 'a'.

pigsinmud · 13/12/2011 21:19

Prefer Tess - dc4 is Tess. Means fourth born - dh liked that link!
Not keen on Susannah or Lydia.

LemonDifficult · 13/12/2011 21:19

LOVE Tessa.

ConfusedGirlSuze · 14/12/2011 15:17

I'm a Susannah. So a bit biased.

I was Susannah until I was 10 and know I'm a Suzi.

I do love my name and it's really lovely written down, on certificates and such like.

Although - Lydia is beautiful too! Not too keen on Tess is reminds me of 'couuples' from SCD.

xx

minciepie · 14/12/2011 18:00

I think Tessa (Tess) is a fabulous name.

Not so keen on Susannah (especially with the H) or Lydia.

However, in case it helps, there was a girl at my school called Susannah who was always known as Zanna not Susie. I don't think Susie is inevitable.

Also, I quite like Sue. Yes I know it's a parents' generation name, but I like it anyway.

MudAndGlitter · 14/12/2011 18:05

Tessa. Mainly because I know a complete bitch called Lydia and that oh susannah song would do my nut in!
