When dd was born, Lydia was the second choice and thus reserved for dd2 if there was one. Now I'm pg I'm a bit sick of Lydia. Love the name but feels like we've been there, done that IYSWIM.

So we've also come up with Tessa and Susannah...

What d'ya think? :)

Susannah is my fave (biblical), Tessa nice (nn Tess). Lydia also biblical and nice but feels more popular than the others.

Bandwitch · 15/06/2011 17:46

Lydia and Susannah are both lovely. Not at all keen on Tessa

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 15/06/2011 17:49

Lydia - the tattooed lady - sorry Blush
Tessa - like
Susannah - can't think of anyone but Trinny and........

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 15/06/2011 17:49

Corr am not much help at all am I so sorry!

MordechaiVanunu · 15/06/2011 18:37

I love them all.

Susannah is my favourite though. It seems a very fresh and pretty name to me, but also good as the name of a woman who is taken seriously, which some girly names can struggle to convey IMO.

SloganLogan · 15/06/2011 22:42

Lydia is my favourite of your options.

Bathsheba · 16/06/2011 07:50

I have a Tess....everyone loves her name...except the people who think she is called Tex and look at me like I'm mad...

topazmcgonagall · 17/06/2011 00:45

Susannah - it's lovely. Then Tessa. I'm not keen on Lydia.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 10/12/2011 14:30

Right, I'm bumping my own old thread because I'm about 3 weeks away from this child making an appearance and we're no further on.

We had decided on Susannah, which I like, except I can't get my head around Susie. And she will be known as Susie, doesn't matter what we do, it's inevitable. It's not that I dislike it as such, more that it's a Pamela/Beverley name of my mother's generation (almost) and I'm sick of hearing it. I always said whichever name we went with I'd have to be happy with the nn options.

Ultimately, DH still won't have Verity (not for the want of trying) so the three options we had in June are the same three options we have now. DH would be happy with any of them.

Susannah Verity Violet
Lydia Verity Violet
Tessa Verity Violet

Middle names are non negotiable and Tessa would be Tessa on bc, not Theresa.

DD1 is Harriet.

We had also visited Madeleine and Helena on the journey but have finally discounted those. So, what do you think?

hugsmummy · 10/12/2011 15:35

of your list lydia by a mile i have one .
we toyed with susanna/h for dd4 but like you disliked susie or sue
tessa /tess is ok but i'm not overly keen on them ,it reminds me too much of tessie bear from noddy .

love harriet and verity btw , both names i loved for dd4 but my stubborn obstinate dh was having none of it despite all my persuasive efforts .

good luck

lisaro · 10/12/2011 15:37

They're nice names but take me back to the 70's for some reason.

bytheMoonlight · 10/12/2011 15:38

We have a Tessa. I love Tess as her nn

BlameItOnTheBogey · 10/12/2011 16:49

Just to say that I am a Susannah and I have never been known as Suzy, so it isn't really inevitable. I love my name - it's well known but not overly used. It worked when I was younger but it's also the name of someone who gets taken seriously in the work place. I much prefer it to any of the other names you are suggesting.

How about just verity violet? That's a cool name on its own (or names to be precise).

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 10/12/2011 20:20

I would adore that, but DH won't have Verity. I've been trying to sell it to him for 8 months :(

startail · 10/12/2011 20:26

I don't like Lydia, we have at DD2s school and I just don't like it, makes me think of a jar of jam. Very silly she's a perfectly nice child, but I like her sister and brothers names far more.

kindling · 10/12/2011 20:40

Love Lydia! biased

Then Susannah. Agreed that Suzie nicknames are a bit outmoded. How about nn Sanna instead? I think it's the Scandinavian shorterning (well I met a Swedish one once).

Tessa is nice enough but doesn't have the class of the other two imo.

said · 10/12/2011 20:47

Love any of these names, and Suzy is a great shortening; sounds cool rock chick to me (when she's older, obviously!)

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 10/12/2011 20:49

Why can't they just come out with a name, like cabbage patch dolls?

hugsmummy · 10/12/2011 22:31

if your undecided between the 3 names could any of their meanings influence your decision ? is their one name whose meaning stands out for you .

alternatively do you prefer the look of any of the initials with your surname .

hugsmummy · 10/12/2011 22:32

sorry is there one name meaning that stands out .

hester · 10/12/2011 22:35

Lydia is my favourite.
Tessa 2nd favourite.
Susannah 3rd.
