Strong female name suggestions required

Hi I am keen to give my daughter a strong name that will suit her when she is older. I'm not really very keen on girly flowery names (molly, milly, daisy etc.) but I'm struggling - any suggestions out there?

I am the same as you - don't like also these lilly, milly, holly, molly names that are so fashionable at the moment.

Here are a few I like:

  • Meredith
  • Roberta
  • Miriam
  • Antonia
  • Simone

Our dd1 was going to be Poppy or Eve until she was born, for some reason we both felt she needed a stonger name and went for Lydia - really suits her.

valiumbandwitch · 06/06/2011 17:12

Love Margot, and Margaret. Also Penelope. I am not crazy about milly molly mandie type names either. Although I do like Nina on montmartre's list. Perhaps because there aren't also minas and linas and dinas and ginas.

minipie · 06/06/2011 19:13

Names I think sounds "strong" (some duplications from above):

Rachel
Robyn
Hazel
Holly
Helen
Nina
Tess
Bess
Tamsin
Lauren
Alexa
Hannah
Chloe
Zoe
Tara
Stella
Kate
Ruth

This is the best name thread I've seen for ages.

MynameisTerces · 06/06/2011 19:31

I also like Anna. Every Anna I have known has been strong, reliable and lovely.
