Can't decide between 2 girls names!

We are stuck between choosing Alice or Philippa (Pippa) for our first DD.
Already have an Oliver and an Edward (Teddy)

The boys have voted one each for each of the names and DH and I just cant decide.

I love them both but am slightly put off Alice by it being so pretty/girly and what if DD is a rough and tumble toy boy?
Also slghtly nervous of Philippa as DS1 has a slight speech delay and pronounces it 'Flipper' at the moment. Would she get called Flipper by other kids? Will people laugh that DS1 says 'Flipper' instead of Philippa?

What shall we choose? Votes please!!!

Alice without any doubt. Flipper is funny but not a nice name (Pippa), FWIW I do like the name Phillppa but not the NN, I much prefer flipper.

expectingno3 · 05/04/2011 13:28

I prefer Alice. Not really keen on Philippa at all. I don't think you have a problem with the name Alice if she turns out to be a bit of a tom boy. Good luck!

MelinaM · 05/04/2011 13:29

Alice!!! Such a beautiful name, and goes perfectly with Oliver and TeddySmile
Ali is lovely for a nn too, I don't think it's particularly girly like Isobel (Izzy) or all those floral names Rosie, Lily, Violet etc...

laughalot · 05/04/2011 13:29

Alice its lovely

PorkChopSter · 05/04/2011 13:30

Alice goes really well with the vowel sounds of Oliver and Edward.

I prefer Flipper as a nickname for Phillipa Grin

Alice is lovely

Prefer Alice and I don't think that it is too girly. She could always shortern it to Ali if she preferred.

thumbwitch · 05/04/2011 14:58

I like Philippa. I have a great friend called Pip, Pippi by her nieces and family. SHe could also call herself Phil as a nn if she wanted to.

Alice is ok but boring in comparison, IMO.

smother · 05/04/2011 14:59

Alice is beautiful. One of my favourite names.
Not too girly.
Ali and Oli.....?

theagedparent · 05/04/2011 15:00

I prefer Pippa.

Hully- not a day goes by without you making me laugh out loud!

randomimposter · 05/04/2011 15:13

Alice

CharlieBoo · 05/04/2011 15:57

Alice, it's gorgeous. Philippa just bland to my ears.

Emelene · 05/04/2011 16:03

I prefer Alice, and I think it goes better with your boys names. If you're worried about it being overly girly, you could choose a middle name that's not and call her that is she prefers? :)

Tommy · 05/04/2011 16:04

wouldn't worry about the older sibling mispronouncing it - DS1 called DS2 "Titty" for the first few months.... Grin

They are both nice names - I prefer Philippa myself though

eastegg · 05/04/2011 16:09

Another vote for Alice here. It's classic, and I don't think it's particularly girly. Pip's a good shortening, but that wouldn't be enough to make me choose Phillipa.

pilates · 05/04/2011 20:00

Def Alice, Philipa is a butch name.

kitkat1000 · 05/04/2011 20:21

like alice the most - also like pippa as a name itself - Phillipa just isn't pretty enough imo with all the names available these days

SolarPanel · 05/04/2011 20:21

Philippa/Pippa is much nicer IMO.

Alice is not as interesting.

Rhubarbgarden · 05/04/2011 20:30

Philippa would be my choice. Bit more unusual and Pippa is lovely. Alice is getting very popular.

Reggiee · 05/04/2011 21:30

I have a Pippa (she's not a Phillipa) so am obviously biased . Ds pronounces it Pippi.

eatyourveg · 05/04/2011 21:32
