Hi

I'm really struggling this time round to think of names I like! Well, there is one girls name I LOVE but DH not keen.

Can I share the list with you for feedback? It's really long but I developed this with the idea that there has to be one name on it that DH likes! There are actually a couple he's ok with, but they don't, I think, go with our MN Alice (DH's grandmother's name). Surname is one syllable.

Devon
Iris
Isis
Ramona
Frances
Eloise
Darcie
Scarlett
Aimee
Amber
Maeve
Florence
Agnes
Telma
Esmee
Romilly
Agatha
Innes
Elizabeth
Grace
Jasmine
Maya
Savannah
Indira

The struggle to come up with a boy's name is even worse but I won't bore you with that one - yet!

Maya

theagedparent · 20/03/2011 17:13

I like Romilly and Agatha

Janus · 20/03/2011 17:55

Florence and Romilly for me or how about Eliza instead of Elizabeth as that seems more your taste?

emsyj · 20/03/2011 18:04

I love Amber and would have used it but it clashes with our surname. Also like Elizabeth.

Indira is the name of our favourite curry house...

Ramona = Quimby, although that's not necessarily a bad thing.

Quite like Jasmine too.

TysonNobdie86 · 20/03/2011 18:08

Jasmine
Maya
Aimee
Amber
In that order :)

flipfloppop · 20/03/2011 18:12

I love Iris, I considered this for DD2 but went with Nell in the end.

I also like Jasmine and Amber.

cremedelacreme · 20/03/2011 18:13

Oooh, my fave has not been mentioned yet. Maybe DH is right ... ! Thanks for the feedback so far ... keep it coming!

PS. Yes, Eliza Alice - like that!

Devon - I think this is a boys name
Telma - yuk
Innes - NO this is a surname

Like (in no particular order):
Jasmine
Maya
Esmee
Romilly
Amber
Grace
Maeve

cece · 20/03/2011 18:21

Frances Alice - with nn of Fran or Frankie
Eloise Alice - very pretty
Florence Alice - lovely classic
Agnes Alice - always liked this name but not brave enough to use it
Esmee Alice - like but spelt Esme, the extra e on the end just looks wrong
Elizabeth Alice - lovely classic and Elizabeth has lots of lovely nn

SandStorm · 20/03/2011 18:23

Darcie or Elizabeth (although I would spell it Darcey).

shimmerysilverglitter · 20/03/2011 18:25

Eloise or Esmee, also prefer Esme - my all time favourite name, but both were vetoed by ex for dd.

eatyourveg · 20/03/2011 18:27

Grace Amber Florence and Esmee would be my short list

Ondine · 20/03/2011 18:28

Maeve would be my first choice, classy and under used.

Amber is also nice but Amber Alice doesn't work very well.

I'm really not keen on Devon, Isis, Darcie, Aimee (Amy is ok though) and Savannah.

babyapplejack · 20/03/2011 18:28

I like:

Amber
Amy (not Aimee)
Elizabeth, with nickname Beth (my fav) or lots of others

vouvrey · 20/03/2011 20:28

Amber
Maya
and
Iris
in that order.

HarderToKidnap · 20/03/2011 20:32

Can I just say that Telma is a popular brand of Jewish groceries. It's a household name for Jews. For Jews, meeting someone called Telma would be like you meeting someone called Tetley or Jif.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/03/2011 20:37

Devon - really dislike this, sorry
Iris - ok
Isis - bit try hard imho
Ramona - hard sounding - don't like
Frances - ok but bit dull
Eloise - love it
Darcie - like Darcy
Scarlett - ok
Aimee - silly spelling
Amber - ok
Maeve - lovely
Florence - lovely
Agnes - no - another hard sounding one
Telma - hideous
Esmee - okay but I think only one E
Romilly - don't like
Agatha - hard
Innes - try hard again
Elizabeth - lovely
Grace - nice but dull
Jasmine - ok
Maya - don't like
Savannah - don't like
Indira - don't like

Maternelle · 20/03/2011 20:55

Florence
Agnes
Esmee
Romilly

Maeve.

Devon seems a little chavvy, Scarlett is overused. Don't like Maya, Indira orSavannah. Do like Agatha or Romilly.

Innes is a boys name.

smother · 20/03/2011 21:33

From your list, I love:
Iris
Frances
Maeve
Innes
Elizabeth
Jasmine
Indira

The only ones I really don't like are:
Devon
Savannah
Darcie

What about Alice as a first name? It's gorgeous!

Tillyscoutsmum · 20/03/2011 21:36

I love Maeve, Florence and Frances. Also like Eloise and Agatha but not sure they work with Alice

cremedelacreme · 20/03/2011 23:01

Ha, brilliant stuff! DH's no. 1 was Devon (after Devon Sproule, folk singer) but I said it wouldn't work unless you knew the woman and thought she was cool!
My no. 1 was Darcie or Darcey, but it seems that's not popular either, eek!
I do really love Iris, Maeve and Elizabeth (Beth for short) and these were the others on 'my' shortlist, but DH only likes Iris out of those. So, maybe it's gonna have to be Iris then!!! But friend says Iris Alice doesn't work. Grrr, how complex is this baby naming business? Confused

Now, do I share the (shorter) boys list with you??

Absolutely
