Seren or Emilia?

Emilia Rose has been top of our list (shortened to Emme or Emmie)..but I've now discovered Seren (pronounced Seh-ren) which is Welsh for Star.

DP's Grandfather is Welsh and his Dad grew up in Wales too so there is a link!

Emilia Rose or Seren Elizabeth or Seren Rose?

Surname is Brooks. Struggling to decide! Is Seren common in Wales?

Both lovely. Is Emilia pronounced similar to Amelia? Or is it Emee-lia?

randomimposter · 15/03/2011 22:56

Prefer Emilia but Seren lovely too.

wigwam1973 · 15/03/2011 22:56

Definitely Emilia.

Piffle · 15/03/2011 23:02

I've an Emilia (Emmy)
it's having a renaissance I think
I happen to love it, I do also think Seren is lovely

smellyfeet · 15/03/2011 23:07

Never heard of Seren, but it's really lovely.

Edmundo · 15/03/2011 23:25

Emilia.

Underachieving · 16/03/2011 04:28

Seren is beautiful and it goes best with Elizabeth I think.

montylady · 16/03/2011 08:09

Love both but I would choose Seren. It is a beautiful name. Why not Seren Emilia if you love both?

PepsiPopcorn · 16/03/2011 09:01

Emilia.

Not keen on Seren, it's a bit faddy. Like Serena though, or other names like Estella and Aurora.

spiderlight · 16/03/2011 09:05

Seren! That's what DS would have been if he'd been a girl. I like Seren Elizabeth best but Seren Rose is also lovely. I don't think it's over-popular - we're in Wales and there are none in DS's nursery.

Ooopsadaisy · 16/03/2011 09:05

Emilia Rose or Seren Rose equally lovely.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 16/03/2011 09:06

Emelia is a lovely name, Seren sounds unfinished IYSWIM.

OrangeBernard · 16/03/2011 09:17

Seren for me.

shouldnotbehere · 16/03/2011 09:19

Emilia

cumbria81 · 16/03/2011 10:06

I don't get the difference between Amelia and Emilia? When I read them out they sound exactly the same.

Seren, on the other hand, is lovely.

AnnieDelores · 16/03/2011 11:43

Emilia can be shortened to Emmy which Amelia can't. Its less common than Millie which is why I like it.

I adore Seren. A beautiful name.

usedtobeahappycamper · 16/03/2011 13:09

Seren is lovely. Bit biaised tho Wink

Mumbybumby · 16/03/2011 13:17

I love both names.

DS was potentially going to be either. Don't know any of either name so not that common.

Don't think Seren is very popular outside Wales. I would probably see what DD looks like then choose :)

JiltedJohnsJulie · 16/03/2011 16:51

Another vote for Seren.

deliakate · 16/03/2011 16:57

I prefer Seren too. Emilia is nice, but Emilia Rose reminds me of the expensive newborn clothes in John Lewis - Emile et Rose...

expectingno3 · 16/03/2011 18:25

What about Seren Emilia? Rolls off the tongue nicely I think. My fave name at the moment is Merryn Emily which is kind of similar.

pilates · 17/03/2011 11:51

Emilia Rose is lovely

BogTrotter · 17/03/2011 21:44

We must have similar tastes as I ummed and ahhed about those names for ages. Seren won in the end and it gets my vote ever time - use Emilia as a second name as it does indeed work really well.

Incidentally, I saw an Eddie Stobart lorry a while back called Seren Elizabeth!

Edmundo · 18/03/2011 22:29

Emilia. Seren sounds really weak to me.
