Seren or Emilia?

Emilia Rose has been top of our list (shortened to Emme or Emmie)..but I've now discovered Seren (pronounced Seh-ren) which is Welsh for Star.

DP's Grandfather is Welsh and his Dad grew up in Wales too so there is a link!

Emilia Rose or Seren Elizabeth or Seren Rose?

Surname is Brooks. Struggling to decide! Is Seren common in Wales?

Seren Elizabeth

There both really pretty but I prefer Emilia Rose.

Seren might get mistaken for Serena outside of Wales. I've only heard of one person with that name, and she's Welsh.

Emilia Rose is our no.1 girls name too atm!!

I too prefer Emilia over Amelia as less popular and prefer the shortenings too, Millie is really popular here.

But after three boys I still can't beleive we are having a girl tbh!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 19/03/2011 20:03

I think Serena Elizabeth Brooks sounds lovely tbh. Outside of Wales if you went with Seren I think she'd get people just saying "Serren" which doesn't sound too nice.

LawrieMarlow · 19/03/2011 20:16

I prefer Emilia. But Seren also nice

JemimaMop · 19/03/2011 20:18

I love Seren. I didn't use it as it is really popular here in Wales and there are about 2 in every primary school class!

Invisiblesoul · 19/03/2011 20:22

Seren is gorgeous, never heard it before.

carciofi · 21/03/2011 11:45

I prefer Emilia as I have one. Smile Seren is also pretty.

mopsyflopsy · 21/03/2011 15:16

I prefer Seren as it seems elegant and underused. Emilia, together with Amelie, Amelie, Emily is quite common round here.

SimplySparkling · 21/03/2011 15:31

In my bit of Wales, Seren is now a common primary school name for a girl. That said, given a choice of the two, I'd choose it over Emilia especially given such a nice middle name as Elizabeth or Rose.

AnnieDelores · 21/03/2011 18:43

Sad to hear that Seren is a "Chav name" in Wales. Never really sure what to think when I hear that!

Sorry, it's a very pretty name, but can be heard being yelled across home bargains car park by groups of mums with cigs, velour track suits and juicy cotture buggies. Not judging. Nothing wrong with living that way. But that's what the name seren makes me think

prefer Seren - don't mine Emelia but hate Emmy! - doesn't sound good to me at all and the fact that Emelia can be shortened to that would make me choose Seren everytime! sorry!

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/03/2011 21:09

kitkat can I take it that you're not that keen on JLo's choice of baby names then? Grin

Maternelle · 21/03/2011 21:38

I love Seren.

Whelk · 22/03/2011 20:15

I love Seren
Can't bear Millie which I would be worried about Emilia being shortened to.

Mum2Pea · 23/03/2011 08:58
