Can't decide whether to go for Arlo or Eli even after spending a week trying the names out on him! Any thoughts?

They are both lovely names, like them both :)

Can you tell us the middle name and surname (or first initial?) What made you choose the names?

QuestionNumber · 13/02/2011 22:37

P.S. I slightly prefer Eli.

FetchezLaVache · 13/02/2011 22:37

Both lovely, I prefer Arlo.

SameOldJollster · 13/02/2011 22:37

Prefer Arlo - but Eli is ok too. Always think Eli is unfinished in a way? Elijah?

MrsDeidreIppy · 13/02/2011 22:43

I prefer Eli but not sure why

Prinpo · 13/02/2011 22:48

Love Arlo, although Eli good if short for Elijah.

Have you tried tossing a coin and seeing how you feel when one of the names comes up? Sometimes you get a twinge of disappointment or a feeling of 'oh good' that gives the game away about which you really prefer.

Congratulations on your new DS! Smile

I am very partial to Eli. I also love Elias but I think that Eli is a great name all on its own.

Congratulations :)

We may not have a middle name, and nothing works with the surname we have so we're just concentrating on choosing one name we really like. Thanks for the comments so far - sounds like it's 50/50 which comes out as favourite. I'm going to try tossing a coin!

Agree with brightcopperkettles that Eli is a fine name without having to be short for Elias.

Eli is a Biblical name and he is a different person from Elijah and Elias.

Apparently Arlo is Spanish for "barberry tree", an Italian variant of Charles and a variant of the place-name Harlow.

I do think of Arlo as being a bit more trendy/faddy at the moment.

Wattinger · 14/02/2011 10:27

As I'm in the South East "Arlo" is a big no no for me, sounds just like "Harlow" said in the local accent!

However, there are a few Arlos here. seems quite trendy?Never met an Eli though, nice name!

BarbieLovesKen · 14/02/2011 10:42

I love Eli - just Eli, not short for anything

tummytickler · 14/02/2011 11:34

My 8 year old is Eli , so that is my favourite.
Arlo is awful, and I agree with Wattinger here in SE it is very trendy.

TallulahDoesTheHula · 14/02/2011 11:36

Eli sounds like it should be short for something else
