What do people think of Flora?

I know, I know it spreads easily...but I still think it is a beautiful and hardly used name so it is my no 1 choice for this baby if it is a girl (which it wont be) and am hoping she will be hardened to any silly jokes by the time she gets to that age (if Flora margarine is still around that is)

Thinking Flora Elizabeth or Flora May,

What do you think??

Lovely.

Flora Elizabeth-absolutely fantastic.

Rhubarbgarden · 03/02/2011 08:29

I love it. I would have used it for dd but unfortunately it rhymes with my name.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 03/02/2011 08:31

I really like it and considered it for our DD. Unfortunately the surname has an L as the second letter so sounded odd.
Go for it if you love it.

GrimmaTheNome · 03/02/2011 08:32

Lovely name.

JollySergeantJackrum · 03/02/2011 08:33

I love it. Unfortunately DP doesn't so it's out for our bump.

I like either Elizabeth or May for the middle name.

MaryBS · 03/02/2011 08:34

A friend's car is called Flora Blush.

I prefer Flora Elizabeth

HelenaRose · 03/02/2011 11:22

I do like the name, but it does always makes me think of margarine.

Goldberry · 03/02/2011 11:57

Absolutely lovely. Flora was our first choice for DD, but we were persuaded out of it by someone because of the 'spreads easily' thing. In retrospect I am cross that we let ourselves be persuaded. I have since known a couple of lovely Floras. It taught me not to reveal name choices to anyone until the birth!

Hedwig3 · 03/02/2011 12:24

I like it but my husband said "only if the middle name is Marg!"

I took that as a no! Hmm

ChippingInSmellyCheeseFreak · 03/02/2011 12:31

I just wouldn't - the Flora spreads easily is just too horrid and putting May there as well, really not a great option.

BarbieLovesKen · 03/02/2011 12:34

Oh I love this name. Its gorgeous. I met one, once. She was 16 and employed part time where I was working. I remember thinking how unusual and fabulous her name was.

Flora Elizabeth is stunning.

babysbreath · 03/02/2011 13:33

Oh I love this name, I would have had that for my daughter but DH didn't like it and a few other relatives said the same, which was a shame.

I never think of the 'spreads easily ....'

I would pick Flora Elizabeth.

Helzapoppin · 03/02/2011 13:50

Beautiful name, especially Flora Elizabeth.
I never think of the margarine either.

nancy10 · 03/02/2011 13:57

I think Flora Elizabeth is a lovely name. I haven't even bothered to suggest it to my dh as I know he'd not like it. I also like Florence and think Flora is a good nn instead of Flo.

kerala · 03/02/2011 14:05

I really like Flora - wish the margerine people had not nicked it but wouldnt let that put me off. Actually really like Clover too another margeriney name.

mamma2boyz · 03/02/2011 15:25

LOL at the Flora May thing...had not even crossed my mind!!!!!
Flora Elizabeth clearly a better choice.
Thanks everyone, thankfully my parents seem to like the name having hated so many others!! I dont actually care what family say though as once baby has a name what can they do??

Whinge and moan forever more
Call her something entirely different, but nice
Call her Marge
Call her butterchops....

but most likely they'll just get used to it Grin

tigercametotea · 03/02/2011 15:50

I actually quite like Flora May... :)

FeralGirlCambs · 03/02/2011 16:47

Oi, mamma2boyz I've already bagsed Flora Elizabeth if mine's a girl! Grin So, yes, I think it's lovely. Go for it. I'm more of a butter girl myself...

Lonnie · 03/02/2011 17:01

One of my all time favourite names dh loves it too but oursurname starts FL so you just cant..

flopsy1974 · 03/02/2011 19:33

Flora Elizabeth is gorgeous. I think its a lovely name and hardly used.

Ooopsadaisy · 03/02/2011 19:39

I had a Flora in my class at school.

Well it wasn't really her name - the boys nick-named her Flora because she spread easily (in fairness, they were telling the truth).

That memory will never leave me, so I wouldn't personally name a dc Flora.

ohbabybaby · 03/02/2011 23:00

It's a beautiful name. Just think of flowers rather than the marg! It would be on my list if I was having a girl.
Fleur is also a favourite of mine, avoids the marg issue (though in the wrong accent it could sound a bit like urrgh I suppose!)
