I love this name but my DH doesn't so it's been removed from my list sadly :(

tebbles · 02/01/2011 15:24

I haven't heard it before as a name, but I think it will suit both a child and a man. I quite like it.

If you both like it and you should use it. I think it is much much better than Tarquin. Also better than Finlay as this names confuses me, some say 'Fin-lay' and others 'Fin-lee'.

Actually I have heard it before- from Days of our lives!

activate · 02/01/2011 15:24

it's awful

yama · 02/01/2011 15:25

Much better than Tarquin.

Agree with Tebbles about Finlay. What about Finn?

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 15:27

Prefer Roman to Tarquin

Good luck tomorrow, hope it goes well!

ZZZenAgain · 02/01/2011 15:28

Tarquin, Finlay and Roman are all such very different names though, aren't they? Totally different feel to each of them.

dessen · 02/01/2011 15:32

Spelt Romain in french for a boy

websticks · 02/01/2011 15:33

Thats the problem we have with finlay, i say finlay dp says fin-lee. I would shortern it to Finn but dp doesn't like it! Its going to be the baby with no name!

OP posts:
tebbles · 02/01/2011 15:39

I always thought it was Fin-lay, like the Home and Away (teenage girl) character from years ago and then all the baby Finlay boys started being born and some were being called 'Fin-lee'.

Now I sound like a big soap fan, although Im not really I'm just good at remembering names.

AnnOnimous · 02/01/2011 15:46

I love Finlay and Finn, not so keen on Roman and hate Tarquin.

How about: Torin, Calum, Marcus, Malachi, Mordecai or Alfie.

websticks · 02/01/2011 15:54

Annonimous, Dp likes Marcus i am not so sure and Ds1 likes Alfie but its very popular where we live.

thumbplumpuddingwitch · 02/01/2011 16:02

Much better than Tarquin

Thanks vinvinoveritas, will check that out. My friends son is called Leon so that rules that one out.
Ds1 is called Lucas so need a name that goes with that, and just dont think Marcus does

OP posts:
tebbles · 02/01/2011 16:20

I think Roman and Lucus go really nicely together as brothers.

AnnOnimous · 02/01/2011 16:25

mmmmmm Maybe the Lucas and Marcus combo is a bit too Roman and historic, now you mention it.

What about: Simon, Sam, Daniel or Mark.

onimolap · 02/01/2011 16:29

I like Roman, and know one (age 11) in RL. I would associate it with Russian/Slav background (like Roman Abramovic - are youChelsea supporters?)

websticks · 02/01/2011 16:33

The other problem i have that i work in a nursery and have done for 15 years. so every name reminds me of some 'little darling' and some puts me off.
I have never come across a Roman so i think thats why it appeals

MistletoeMush · 02/01/2011 16:35

I like Roman. I think that it will become quite popular

grumpypants · 02/01/2011 16:37

I would think
a) you are Italian/ have Italian family
b) ds was conceived in Rome
or c) you are very pretentious

Sorry. But you did ask.

lizandlulu · 02/01/2011 16:39

i like it and know several Roman's in RL. 3 of them are travellers and its quite a common name with them.

tebbles · 02/01/2011 16:42

As you can't use Marcus what about Marco?
