Or Owen?

Nightstar · 02/01/2011 16:51

I know twin boys called Greco and Roman, they are very sweet and fun.

I also had a boyfriend called Romey, when i was about ten, not sure if thats how it was spelt though.

I think Roman is a strong name. I would say go for it, but if you have only just thought of it then my concern would be that it is only a fleeting attraction to the name which may pass

Georgimama · 02/01/2011 16:54

I think you'll spend your life correcting people who think the name is "Ronan". Also strongly associated to me with a psychotic character in Chancer (played by the gorgeous Michael Kitchen), but it is a strong sounding name and I do like it.

LetThereBeRock · 02/01/2011 18:09

I love it.It's one of my favourite names, and far nicer than Finlay imho.

cece · 02/01/2011 18:16

I know a few little Romans. It seems to be getting more popular. And yes I know some travellers called Roman, quite often hyphenated with something else too.

Chynah · 02/01/2011 18:16

Love Roman but as it is DS middle name I amslightly biased!

panettoinydog · 02/01/2011 18:27

turrible

lisianthus · 02/01/2011 18:30

It reminds me of US daytime soaps like the Bold and the Beautiful. The men are always called something like Roman or Ridge or Thorn. Puts me off a bit. If you are fine with that, I guess you could think of Ridge or Thorn as back-ups! :)

LittleYellowTeapot · 02/01/2011 19:21

Oooo....I think I like Roman Smile I don't know any Roman's IRL but it sounds like a good strong name.

Don't like Tarquin at all I'm afraid.

MaryMungo · 02/01/2011 19:24

Sorry, Polanski is the first thing that springs to mind....

evamummy · 02/01/2011 19:31

Both Roman and Tarquin are much more interesting than Finlay - there are enough little Finns out there imo.

insertexpletive · 02/01/2011 19:35

I actually quite like Roman. really like Rowan though.

purplefeet · 02/01/2011 19:53

Love Roman, stong, manly name.

Marcus, Tarquin and Finlay are not names I like.

Know a girl called Rowan, people always think she's male.

3nearly4 · 02/01/2011 20:09

I have a Finlay so obviously my vote is with that. Most certainly not 'chav' missmiss, how very dare you Shock. We pronounce it Fin-lay but he mostly gets Fin.

Roman is quite nice actually, not a name I have heard before. Tarquin is very very posh (in an over-the-top way).

Good luck with the birth websticks!

qwerty123 · 02/01/2011 20:11

Roman is a fantastic name. A great choice.

weimy · 02/01/2011 20:12

grumpypants is there something wrong with being Italian or having an italian sounding name?

Our surname is italian so mine will have italian first names.

Roman is nice so is Romano.

I like both Tarquin and Roman - both cool, underused names. Whats wrong with posh?

Finlay is ok but there are so, so many little Finns around already - Finleys, Finlays, Finnians etc. that I find the name a little too common/dull.

mathanxiety · 02/01/2011 21:59

Roman is gorgeous. Lucas and Roman very nice together.

Please don't call him Tarquin. It is gobsmackingly pretentious.

Lonnie · 02/01/2011 22:06

I Dont like it

websticks · 02/01/2011 22:13

Thanks to everyone who has replied.
It seems most people quiet like Roman, and i do think Lucas and Roman do go nice together. Hope when i meet him tomorrow he will look like a Roman or a Finlay. One thing is for sure he will not look like a Tarquin!
