Hi All,

I'm now 6months pg and no closer to picking a girls name than I was 4 months ago. Could I have opinions on the below please:

Freya
Niamh
Cora
Nina
Orla

Or suggestions of similar names, we love Olivia but it's just too popular.

Thank you!

I like Cora best

BelligerentYhoULE · 31/12/2010 12:14

I love Niamh and like Freya.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/12/2010 12:22

Cora.

Niamh is lovely is slightly overdone.

meandjoe · 31/12/2010 12:40

Freya and cora are both v pretty

Prinpo · 31/12/2010 13:09

All very pretty - it's unusual I like someone's whole list. I'd say that Freya and Niamh are quite popular, which may or may not be a consideration.

Love Cora and Orla (Orla's on our shortlist, well mine at least) and Nina is pretty.

Good choices!

tummytickler · 31/12/2010 13:33

Cora or Nina. Both if these are fabulous!

minipie · 31/12/2010 13:39

All nice names. Do you have an Irish connection?

Cora and Nina are probably my favourites, closely followed by Freya and Imogen.

Orla and Niamh probably my least preferred, just less pretty sounds to my ears. But they are still nice.

NanaNina · 31/12/2010 13:41

Are you Irish - as Niamh and Orla are Irish names aren't they. Agree Niamh bit overdone. Me too love Olivia but is the most popular girl's name at the moment. Does Isla or Erin appeal?

coco2901 · 31/12/2010 13:55

We aren't, we're Scottish but Irish roots and an Irish surname. NanaNina, OH doesn't like Isla and SIL is called Erin.

Thanks for the comments :)

We have a Niamh and she is bonkers!!! Bear that in mind Wink

coco2901 · 31/12/2010 14:02

Haha! Thanks, I will bear that in mind ;)

They are all lovely names.

Freya - beautiful
Niamh - nice but bit meh and boring in my opinion as theres probably 90 of these where I live.
Cora - dont love Cora but think its silly association i.e. I know 4 and they arent the nicest of people.
Nina - beautiful
Orla - beautiful, lovely associations for me as its my wee cousin's name and shes fab, that said, there are loads too...
Imogen - beautiful.

Going by your name list, do you like Clodagh? think it sounds like it suits and is a gorgeous name.

coco2901 · 31/12/2010 14:14

I love the way Clodagh sounds, but not how it looks iyswim?

I think you are all right about Niamh, it is a bit popular

You know what seems to me to go with your list

Nia or Nyah

Nightstar · 31/12/2010 14:42

Not imogen, it's a very cold name

Cora is a lovely warm name. Or Coral or Corinne

coco2901 · 31/12/2010 14:46

Nightstar- OH will be pleased you said that, its his least favourite of the list. I'm not sure about Nia/Nyah, never heard of it before, i'll keep it in mind and see if I get used to it, thanks :)

Lovely names all of them. I particularly like Nina (makes me think of the wonderful Nina Simone) and Niamh - I love the associated with the name Niamh.

The only one I wouldn't go for is Freya. DP was really keen on Freya, but if we'd had a girl I would have been against it as it's just too popular these days IMO. (Had a boy in the end so didn't have to have that conversation!)

2muchtodo2littletime · 31/12/2010 15:00

We are Irish and have a Niamh who is bonkers too! What about Cara meaning friend? Or Aoife? (Pronounced eefa)
Smile

coco2901 · 31/12/2010 15:10

I liked Aoife and loved Caoimhe but OH vetoed both :(

OP posts:
sobloodystupid · 31/12/2010 15:13

Siobhan, Muireann, Aileen, Bridin, Lasairfhiona (Ok, maybe not the last one)

Komondor · 31/12/2010 15:20

Freya

How about Faye or Cara

McGinger · 31/12/2010 21:08

I have a Nyah, and to be honest it seems to be a marmite name. People either love it or hate it, there is no middle ground! :o

And incase you were wondering you pronounce it N-eye-ah (if that makes sense!)

I personally love her name, it suits her down the the ground. She is a wee menace, but don;t let that put you off!

I like all of your list of girls names, most of them are very popular where I am from, with the exception of Nina and Cora.
