Hi All,

I'm now 6months pg and no closer to picking a girls name than I was 4 months ago. Could I have opinions on the below please:

Freya
Niamh
Cora
Nina
Orla

Or suggestions of similar names, we love Olivia but it's just too popular.

Thank you!

Nina is gorgeous - definitely my favourite of your list. A lovely name that will stand the test of time.

montysorry · 31/12/2010 22:00

Cora is lovely

HerculesPoiroastinOnAnOpenFire · 31/12/2010 22:08

Imogen! We have one, she is lively and lovely and we had so many nice comments aborut her name when she was born. I completely disagree about it being a 'cold' name.

Freya would have been my second choice from your list and then Cora...

MrsColumbo · 31/12/2010 22:08

Niamh is lovely.
BTW, how do you pronounce Aoife and Caoimhe, Coco?

spidookly · 31/12/2010 22:08

Deirdre
Maeve

spidookly · 31/12/2010 22:09

Aoife - EE-fa

Caoimhe - QUEE-va/KEE-va

whoodoo · 31/12/2010 22:10

Niamh so overused round here. Nina lovely - reminds me of the seventies flower power stuff but in a good way. Cora also nice. Freya is underwear to me but I have big boobs ( their bras really do fit well btw). We liked eilidh ( sounds like ay-Lee) but we only have boys.

2muchtodo2littletime · 31/12/2010 22:17

MrsColumbo Aoife is prononuced ee-fa
and Caoimhe is keeva. 'aoi' is prounced 'ee' and 'mh' is 'v'!
I love Caoimhe but its too tricky and my dad calls it an Irish scrabble hand!

Rhubarbgarden · 01/01/2011 10:35

Nina

AnnOnimous · 01/01/2011 12:59

Freya - bit too overused
Niamh - nice, but v popular
Cora - French supermarket
Nina - sorry, don't like but cannot put my finger on why!
Orla - love it
Imogen - doesn't provoke strong opinions either way!

How about Mirrin, Erin, or Brionny, these were all names I loved, but never got round to using. Oh, and I quite like Juliet.

JojoMags · 01/01/2011 17:55

All really lovely. Nina and Cora are my favourites. Other suggestion would be Maeve/Meabh. Friend's little girl has the name and she's fab!

Darnsarfupnorf · 01/01/2011 17:58

Shock all on my shortlist!!

weve decided on orla now but at 28 weeks theres plenty of time to change my mind lol hope we dont though, i love orla!! x

montysorry · 01/01/2011 18:19

Orla is lovely too but is becoming very popular. Though, when you think about it, if you love the name, why should its popularity put you off.

tebbles · 01/01/2011 18:46

Freya
Niamh
Cora
Nina
Orla
Imogen

I like all of these names. Except Freya which I really dislike (I think of that author) and I think the name Freya will date very badly in the future and will become the new 'Sharon' or 'Tracey'.

The rest are all very nice though and much nicer than Olivia IMO.

I would make my final decison based on how it sounds with your surname and also if you already have a preferred middle name.

DitaVonCheese · 03/01/2011 00:47

All nice. Can I also throw in Oonagh if you like Gaelic names?

IWillCountToThree · 03/01/2011 00:50

Ooh i like Cora, but what about Annina, Nina for short?
It's my friend's name and i think it's lovely!

hugebelly · 03/01/2011 00:56

Olivia may be number one on the popular list, but I hardly know of only one (live in north london) at my daughter's nursery of over 60 pupils.

If you like it, go for it. Who cares if it's popular? Chances are you'll move house and your DD will go to another school where another name will be popular.

hugebelly · 03/01/2011 00:58

oops - '...hardly know of any/ only know of one'.

shouldn't write so late at night!

Udderly · 03/01/2011 01:02

I heard of a Coirle once (sounds like Cora with an L, so Corla IYKWIM), I think its a really pretty name

ILoveGregoryHouse · 03/01/2011 01:06

Nina.

What about Mairi?

Kristingle · 03/01/2011 01:23

I like all yours

What about Fiona?

darleneconnor · 03/01/2011 01:48

Freya love it
Niamh ok but tricky to spell
Cora. ok, maybe Corin, corine, or corrina?
Nina dont like to nee-nawy
Orla good
Imogen very good

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 09:53

Freya - dislike, reminds me of frayed material
Niamh - not keen
Cora - apple core, but Cara is lovely
Nina - lovely :) definitely my favourite from your list
Orla - not particularly keen

ShoppingDays · 03/01/2011 09:59

Imogen - OK.

How about Coralie, Laura, Iona, Clara?

LadyBubbaAndBump · 03/01/2011 10:14

We have an Imogen and get lots of compliments about the name all the time. With hercules on this one (obviously! :o) and totally disagree that it's a 'cold' name!
