Can't believe Evie isn't in there Shock.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 31/12/2010 09:43

I hardly know any Sophies - so I'm surprised to see it at number 2. And I don't know any Chloes either.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/12/2010 09:44

Love the name thereis. Now I've got that song lodged in my head Smile.

Bonsoir · 31/12/2010 09:48

The girls' names are all really pretty, except for Ruby. There isn't going to be a generation of ugly names - Sharon, Karen etc. And most of the boys' names are nice too, though I don't like Harry, Charlie and Alfie as given names.

EauRudolph · 31/12/2010 09:51

I know a Lily, Jessica, Ava and (several) Amelias.

I'm surprised Ethan isn't in the top ten boys' names, I know at least 4. Must be a regional thing.

rubyslippers · 31/12/2010 09:58

Ava is the new Evie I think

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/12/2010 10:05

Think you could be right Ruby, know a lot of new Avas but still know a lot of Evies too though.

3nearly4 · 31/12/2010 11:04

Does anyone have a link to the full list or have they just released the top 10?

3nearly4 · 31/12/2010 11:14

I found a DM link with the top 20, but can't find a top 100.

Look at Noah Shock

onimolap · 31/12/2010 11:20

If you go to Bounty's website and follow link to "top names" in the baby names section, it's there.

I've just had a look for you, and spotted one error in The Telegraph report: Evie should be in 9th place, and Ava in 11th.

But all the names are wrong on the Bounty site. Looks like they haven't updated it.

Noah is at 15 on their released data but on their site it's at 34!

I found the list on some random site

bigbluebump · 31/12/2010 11:34

"There isn't going to be a generation of ugly names - Sharon, Karen etc."

But Sharon and Karen aren't any uglier than Olivia or Sophie - we've just heard them so often and associate them with a certain era and/or type of person. Our children may well find current trendy names very uncool when they're adults Grin.

tummytickler · 31/12/2010 11:56

Sharon is lovely if you can disassociate it from the image in your head. It is a beautiful sound.

I am surprised to see Daniel in the top 10, I only know 1 baby Daniel, and thought it was quite underused! Shows how much I know!

No other surprises though- just boring run of the mill names.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 31/12/2010 12:23

Will have to disagree on that one Tummy, thought names like Karen and Sharon didn't sound nice in the 70s and still don't.

swanandduck · 31/12/2010 12:26

But that's just taste. I'm sure there's lots of people who think Olivia or Ava are ugly (I think they're lovely by the way)and kids who grow up surrounnded by Olivias and Sophies and Avas and Amelias are bound to be turned off those names by some unpleasant classmates.

TheLastMelon · 31/12/2010 14:01

Im surprised to see Jessica at no.6, i dont know any children called that only adults. Its a beautiful name though.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 31/12/2010 15:36

"There isn't going to be a generation of ugly names - Sharon, Karen etc."

My 5 year old DD thinks Lesley/Leslie is the prettiest name ever. It probably sounds incredibly exotic after all the Millies, Olivias and Evies that she knows.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 31/12/2010 15:38

and thanks JiltedJohnsJulie :)

Bonsoir · 31/12/2010 15:39

I beg to differ - I think names ending in "n" are an abomination!

DontLetTinselDragOnTheFloor · 31/12/2010 15:41

I beg to differ... you're spouting nonsense.

Thelastmelon I know 5 baby Jessica's born in the last few months so I'm not surprised!
Not surprised by any of the names to be honest, most them are nice enough and I know several children of each name.

itsawonderfuldarleneconnorlife · 31/12/2010 17:19

How did Alfie come from complete obscurity to the top 10? That one baffles me!

I must admit I dont like seeing nn's in the top 10.

  1. Oliver-it contains the word 'liver'- yuk!
2: Jack.- too 24 for me 3: Harry. Potter? (can people not think up their own names? 4: Charlie - a girl's name imo 5: Alfie- see above 6: Thomas bo-ring 7: Joshua. ok I kind of like this 8: William dullsville 9: Daniel. chav 10: James lovely but too common

Girls
1: Olivia. too many syllables
2: Sophie. ok
3: Lily. og god, if I hear another of those!
4: Emily. good, solid
5: Ruby nice but a bit sleb
6: Jessica. chav
7: Chloe. good
8: Ava. was ava gardner really that popular?
9: Grace. oh i hate this, so dull
10: Amelia nice

Personally I prefer the Scottish top 10:

Jack
Lewis
James
Logan
Daniel
Ryan
Aaron
Oliver
Liam
Jamie

Sophie
Olivia
Ava
Emily
Isla
Lucy
Chloe
Lily
Ellie
