Since when is Daniel and Jessica chav? Dear lord!! Btw, I must know of a handful of Charlie's and they're ALL boys....

It is just taste, and fashion.

8 years since I first needed a baby name book and back then I was drawn to the really soft pretty names like Olivia. (I couldn't use that one). But that was exactly the kind of sound I liked. I liked Amelia too, but somebody beat me to it by a few weeks.

Now I'm tired of names that end in 'ia'. Names with loads of Ls in them. Ls and Vs are very popular now.

Strong names are just beginning to sound more appealing now. It's fashion, and I can't help being influenced by it.

penelope, Winifred, meredith, Juliet. I would have ruled them out 8 years ago for not being quite pretty enough. If I were choosing again, that'd be a plus.

I don't like Karen much tbh, but I can imagine that it might have sounded kind of modern and jaunty to my parents generation.

Exactly. Like fashion we tire of fashionable/popular names/clothes after a while - that is why they start to sound/look dated.

I know both female (Charlottes) and male (Charles) Charlies.

I'm a Jessica. I'm really surprised it's still so popular as it sounds very 70s to me. I've always loved it though and met plenty of others - chavs and toffs alike.
