Classical or boring?

There are an awful lot of 30-something Clare/Claire/Clairs around.
But I've not heard it being used among young children recently.
I think it's a really pretty name.

piprabbit · 29/12/2010 15:53

P.S. I knew a girl at school who was in a year with lots of Clares. Her nickname was Cyclops...because she was Claire with an I (boom, boom).

YouNeverCanTell · 16/02/2011 18:27

My 8 year-old dd is a Clare: the only one in her school. In fact, the only child Clare I had come across until recently when I met another two others (slightly younger). Just call me a trendsetter!

Lots of people do spell it with an i but only those who don't know us/her well and once they know it's not a hard name to spell!!

I chose the name because of the meaning and I love it more and more. It suits her really well and I see her carrying it into elegant, graceful, accomplished adulthood.

So dreary and dull...

YouNeverCanTell · 16/02/2011 19:01

How kind.

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 16/02/2011 21:46

My middle name. I have mixed feelings towards it. Never liked it all that much, but I could've had a worse middle name. I think it does have a certain appeal now, though.

I have said this on other threads, that because I was born in the 70s and grew up in the 80s, I know quite a few 'Claire/Clares' and I see it as the name of my contemporaries - so I find it hard to imagine it a name for a mature woman (in their 50s/60s/70s) but that might just be me.

BelligerentGhoul · 16/02/2011 21:46

I think it's lovely but prefer it as Claire.

tammytoby · 16/02/2011 21:55

Clare is lovely - feminine and classic.

riojaguzzler · 16/02/2011 22:05

A bit dull really- but so were the Clares that I went to school with!

womma · 16/02/2011 22:21

you can't go wrong really!

girlscout · 16/02/2011 22:26

Beautiful!

TheOldestCat · 16/02/2011 22:32

Love it (it's DD's middle name and she is named for a fiesty, funny, kind and lovely Clare). Classic and elegant.

Jellyrollgumdrop · 20/02/2011 20:25

Another Claire here, dont mind it so much now but hated it when I was growing up. I was the only one in school & wanted to be called Victoria Confused as I thought it sounded 'posh'!!!

JagoJackie · 20/02/2011 23:37

Simple and pretty. More unusual now that it was a few years ago - she won't have umpteen of them in her class

muminthemiddle · 20/02/2011 23:50

I like it and wanted to be Clair as a child!!

Btw all the Claire/Clare/Clairs I know are really great people.

greenzebra · 21/02/2011 11:28

Its my name and that spelling to, I used to hate it at school but that was because it was way to popular then, not so much now. I like my name now, my DH calls me Clare de lune after the debussy classic clair de lune, beautiful bit of music.
Clare means clear and bright.
