Astrid

Marlena

Marnie

Sasha

Stella

This is my new shortlist. Only 5 weeks to go, and no idea what to call her! What kind of person would you say suits these names?

Much appreciated.

i really, really love Astrid

does it matter what kind of person suits the names? you don't know what your little girl will be like yet!

i would just choose the one you like the best

As I say, Astrid is my fave, but I also like Estelle and Stella

UnpureAsTheDrivenSHOW · 13/12/2010 18:12

Sasha will always be a boys' name to me (short for Alexander) but people do use it for girls too.

I'd say they were pretty strong names and all just fine. Not Marlena which I can only say in a Boycie voice but the others are great. Astrid I love.

I named dd after a British Infantry Tank. I'm not girly either. Grin

AllieW · 13/12/2010 18:29

Interesting that Astrid, Estelle and Stella all mean star, if I recall correctly. I think Estelle is probably my favourite of these.

As for possible character: go-getting business woman if Stella on the Apprentice is anything to go by!

Might I also suggest Greta?

Dexterrocks · 13/12/2010 18:30

Astrid is fabulous - I love it!

panettoinydog · 13/12/2010 18:34

I like Marina and Stella. Strong names and also I like the sea/star meanings.

EauRudolph · 13/12/2010 18:41

Astrid is lovely! I also like Estelle/a and Stella but Astrid is the nicest. Not keen on the others.

mathanxiety · 13/12/2010 18:42

Love Astrid, Estelle and Stella. Sasha is nice too, but I prefer Natasha.

I think Astrid is a gorgeous name for a winter baby.

I love Greta too, AllieW. Also Marit (Norwegian Margaret) and Maris (Latin 'sea')

ShoppingDays · 13/12/2010 18:49

Astrid - harsh, don't like at all
Estelle - gorgeous :)
Marina - lovely
Marlena - lovely again
Marnie - Marmite sarnie
Sasha - not keen
Stella - quite nice

sonniboo · 13/12/2010 19:05

Anything but Sasha, which is a boys' name imo.

Spinaroo · 13/12/2010 19:09

I was just going to say that Sasha was the most girly sounding!!!
Maybe that's because Alexander is never shortened to that in Scotland.

veryberry21 · 13/12/2010 19:12

Astrid- someone uniqe and differnt and popular but not becasue of loks but because of personality. Constantly making friends and trying new and exciting things.

Estelle- Someone girly and popular but also a good person that trys her best at everything.

Marina- a shy quite timid girl, with a great personality. Sweet and kind.

Marlena-A great friend. But the envy of nieghborhood. But still a great caring person with a cute personality.

Marnie- a tomboy. Unpopular, quite a rude person but great with her friends.

Sasha- Popular, loud, confident and crazy. doesn't care what anyone thinks. Has amazing friends and they all love her. But not everyone agrees with her ways or what she believes in.

Stella- good student in school. Well presented. seemsd a little insucure.

Thats just what i think the names express.
Personally i like Astria and Estelle and Mina. But i woulkd also consider Marla or Alexx??
I think thoose names are nice. Xmas Grin

spidookly · 13/12/2010 19:20

Love Astrid

darleneconnor · 13/12/2010 19:23

Astrid - love it
Estelle Joey's agent in Friends, prefer Estella as in Great Expectations
Marina - love it
Marlena - no
Marnie -too american
Sasha - like it but does sound like a nn
Stella - as above, could you use stella as a nn? Alone it makes me think of Mccartney and beer.

What about Amber? or Morgan?

travispickles · 13/12/2010 20:14

Thanks all - am narrowing it down now. Can't do Amber or Morgan as am a teacher and avoiding any name that has any connotations with the kids I teach, nice or otherwise! Not sure about Greta, will have a think. Any more, keep em coming!
