As in would you consider it chavvy/posh/nerdy/trendy etc based on people you know with the name?

I don't know as it's not popular where I live, I don't know any, of any age.

I would say reasonably popular, but not super common yet.

Maybe a little uninspired, kind of trendy, as in, it's pretty popular at the moment, but not ridiculously trendy like Tycho.

Edmundo · 06/12/2010 13:13

It's a nice name but there are suddenly loads of them. It's the new Noah/Elijah/Joshua/Ethan.

If you look at the names that dated from our generation - a lot of them were biblical.. Mark, Paul, Jason, David, Jeremy, Jordan, Michael etc.

Just an observation! People think that because a name is Biblical, it's timeless which is not the case.

belgo · 06/12/2010 13:13

Trendy.

CuppaTeaJanice · 06/12/2010 13:19

I like it. I don't think it belongs to any particular class. I've heard it described as Jewish before.

I reckon it's in the same category as Ethan, Josh, Ella, Ruby etc.

truffleshuffle · 06/12/2010 13:21

It's a Jewish name. I love it Smile

Firawla · 06/12/2010 13:48

I think quite trendy, i dont find it either chavvy or posh, i think it seems like either quite funky/fashionable or jewish (or both maybe!) i only know one toddler called it although i think ive come across others @ times, but i dont think its extremely popular although may be on the way to becoming more popular.

expectingno3 · 06/12/2010 13:48

I love it. I know of only one, and he's 5. Pretty cool name I think.

Celery · 06/12/2010 13:54

I went to school with a Reuben ( I'm 35 ), I know a 10 year old Reuben, and my 4 month old nephew is called Reuben. All from very different walks of life. Possibly my nephew is named this from a slightly chavvy perspective (SIL's influence, miaaoow!)

ConstanceFelicity · 06/12/2010 13:56

Chavvy if you're not Jewish.

LadyViper · 06/12/2010 13:56

I think that Reuben lives in a rural area.

Reuben is either lives on a farm and wears outdoor gear or in a very tastefully decorated countryside manor and wears Boden.

Runoutofideas · 06/12/2010 14:29

Reuben's siblings would be Theo, Noah and Violet or Juliet, maybe Rufus. The mother shops at Waitrose.

To me it is not chavvy, but is of the moment and may date.

swanker · 06/12/2010 14:34

To me it's a very Jewish name... I am always a bit Confused when I hear children called Reuben who are not jewish heritage... though not sure why when I think about it- there are a lot of Adams, Noahs, Joshuas around, all Old Testament names too.

swanker · 06/12/2010 14:35

but 'Tycho' made me laugh!

I always remember Paxo mispronouncing Tycho Brahe on university challenge...

Edmundo · 06/12/2010 14:39

The Theos I know have siblings Jayden and Kai, and to me, Noah's very much a Josh type name. Nice names but most certainly not posh!

KangarooCaught · 06/12/2010 14:48

Jewish friends wouldn't use it

BikeRunSki · 06/12/2010 14:54

Timeless and classless imo; also name of amazing ex bf. Phrooar. Sorry. Blush.

spidookly · 06/12/2010 14:57

What is the correct pronunciation for Tycho Brahe?

There seem to be at least 3 accepted pronunciations.

ThwopGoesTheMooncup · 06/12/2010 15:00

I love it. I don't think of it as particularly 'Jewish', but just a biblical Hebrew name. I like a lot of them- Aaron, Joseph, Rachel, Rebecca, Leah...

I reckon it's middle class sort of name. I don't think chavvy at all.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/12/2010 15:34

I would expect the family to be very religious.

Rhubarbgarden · 06/12/2010 15:36

nickytwotimes · 06/12/2010 15:37

posh, for this area anyway

lovely name

ValiumSingleton · 06/12/2010 17:17

I really like it. Some bible names like Elija and Noah are a bit too much for me, but Reuben seems a bit more grounded imo. It won't date to the same extent.

ValiumSingleton · 06/12/2010 17:19

It's not a Jewish name. It's equally an old testament name. Are all the Bens out there Jewish?

discobeaver · 06/12/2010 18:44

I know a girl called Rueben.

I also think of the film 'Reuben Reuben' with Tom Conti, I think. And a big dog. And a dentist.

Rudolphsnose · 06/12/2010 18:52

It's the most perfect baby boy name on the planet, ever Wink
