Dh loves Martha, to the point where he looks slightly crestfallen if I enthuse elsewhere...

Quick poll might help...

Middle name likely to be Elizabeth...

Ada as it's unusual and possibly due for a come back, but I like Martha too.

MissMashMissMash · 19/11/2010 14:52

All great names. I think I like Esther best followed by Martha and then Ada

thesurgeonsmate · 19/11/2010 14:53

Esther!

ShatnersBassoon · 19/11/2010 14:53

I like Martha and Esther.

steph410410 · 19/11/2010 14:55

i love the name Esther. Esther Elizabeth is pretty.

specialsmasher · 19/11/2010 14:55

Esther is lovely, isn't it?

Esther Elizabeth alliterative, but I think that's OK - other dd is alliterative!

Also it's not in the top 100 (shhhh) Grin

I love Martha. Also love Mabel - know it's not an option but it's a similar style! But maybe a bit of a mouthful with Elizabeth!

specialsmasher · 19/11/2010 15:06

My close friend's dd is Mabel...

Esther, Esther, Esther!!!

sethstarkaddersmum · 19/11/2010 15:11

Esther is like Esther in Bleak House, which is good. Ada is Aunt Ada Doom in Cold Comfort Farm, which may be good or bad depending. Also it is a palindrome, which is good.

I know one or two Marthas but they're not all over the place.

so they are all good.

you just need to look at what they all mean and see which meaning you like, just in case one of them means something like 'submissive husband-pleaser'.

Ormirian · 19/11/2010 15:12

Esther.

Teds77 · 19/11/2010 15:17

Think all are gorgeous and all go with Elizabeth.

Ada is possibly my fave, Esther is totally beautiful and although Martha is probably the one I like the least still love it.

Doesn't really help you, though means your DD will have wonderful name whatever you choose Grin

Wait and see which suits her best?

specialsmasher · 19/11/2010 15:37

Getting excited now that I might have a little Esther on the way!

Esther

flopsy1974 · 19/11/2010 16:53

Well I have a four month old Martha so am a little biased, but Esther is a gorgeous name too. Elizabeth would be great as a middle name for either. Timeless and classic.

cyanarasamba · 19/11/2010 17:02

I have a 3 week old Esther so I'm biased too. Still on a high from having & naming her! It's pretty, delicate & yet strong. Unusual but not too 'out there'.

We might shorten to Tess as she gets older.

usualsuspect · 19/11/2010 17:03

Please not Ada

Esther is nice

GetOrfMoiLand · 19/11/2010 17:05

I think they are all fantastic names.

Would find it difficult to choose, but don't like names which alliterate (Esther Elizabeth), and Ada Elizabeth doesn't run together easily, so best choice imo would be Martha.

But 1000 mumsnet points for having excellent baby name taste Grin

LetThereBeRock · 19/11/2010 17:15

Esther.

flaine · 19/11/2010 17:20

Martha and Esther are lovely. Ada is difficult to appreciate. Confused

Nolda · 19/11/2010 17:28

Please, please pick Esther! I wanted a girl called Esther, unfortunately it doesn't go with DH's surname.

suiledonne · 19/11/2010 17:30

Ada, pick Ada. I wanted it for dd2 but no enthusiasm from DH and decided against it in the end. She is 2 now and still regret it.

specialsmasher · 19/11/2010 17:39

Thanks all! Poll pointing towards Esther!

Now just have to get that forlorn look off DH's face when I hint / insist that I'm not going with Martha!

Esther Elizabeth....

Love Martha and Esther.
