Dh loves Martha, to the point where he looks slightly crestfallen if I enthuse elsewhere...

Quick poll might help...

Middle name likely to be Elizabeth...

in order of preference...

Martha (I know a nice one, she is Marth as a nn sometimes :) )

Esther

not so keen on Ada.

When I first read this OP I wasn't going to post my true thoughts as I was never going to dent the tide of approval you've got. However, I've surprised myself, the more I say Ada and Esther, the more I like them. It's true, they are traditional, attractive and under used. Martha however, will always conjure up images of an unattractive, pseudo-intellectual IMO. But I am v much in a minority here... And that might be how some MNs dream their DDs will be. Don't think she'll ever get a blind date though!

I have both an Esther and a Martha - I would say I have heard a few Martha's out and a out in parks etc but never an Esther (if that matters to you?)
My Martha is the calm beauty whilst Esther is bolshy and confident - you can't go wrong IMO - good luck xxx

washngo · 20/11/2010 00:46

All gorgeous names. Ada is my favourite!

KittyFoyle · 20/11/2010 00:50

Esther - fab.

specialsmasher · 20/11/2010 07:22

What an amazing response! Thanks, all. I'm happy to be so close to naming - Esther is my favourite, but I guess I wouldn't be too disgruntled if dh persuaded me to Martha...

Ooh - by the way - Martha Elizabeth would have the overall initials M.E.N. - gaffe??

Martha. Especially if you like all of them and your DH has his heart set on it...

Longtalljosie · 20/11/2010 07:29

Not as much of a gaffe as Martha Elizabeth Ada...

Forster · 20/11/2010 07:31

I love Esther but they are all nice.

Willabywallaby · 20/11/2010 07:38

Martha

girlsyearapart · 20/11/2010 07:59

Not keen on Ada but it's not awful.
Like the other two especially Martha which I wanted for dd3 but because of dh s lahndann accent he says Mar-ffa which would have driven me crazy so we went for Matilda instead.
Congrats how long left?

specialsmasher · 20/11/2010 08:04

She's due in Feb, girlsyearapart - so no rush! We knew what dd1 was by this point, though, and I enjoyed that...

What is dd1 called? If you don't mind me asking Smile

EvaLongoria · 20/11/2010 09:36

I had a lovely long cuddle yesterday with a 7 week old called Martha Elizabeth. would definitely go with that.

specialsmasher · 20/11/2010 09:43

Ruby...

Mousesmummy · 20/11/2010 09:50

Ruby is also very nice, well I guess you should keep both names running and see what she looks like!!! As I said both my girls names are always complimented so either way you will have a great name!

beebuzzer · 20/11/2010 09:58

My name is Martha.(30 now) When I was younger I didn't like it much as I thought it was old fashioned but I do now and people often comment on it. I have heard quite a few children now called martha and it seems more popular in the USA. I love traditional names.

Estha is lovely too though.

Secretwishescometrue · 20/11/2010 10:03

Martha gets my vote :) its really beautiful

Ada or Esther

alittleteapot · 20/11/2010 23:11

Martha is gorgeous, Esther nice too, not sure about Ada. Prefer Ava. Or Edie.

MerryMarigold · 20/11/2010 23:16

Esther my fav too. Martha been done too much, methinks.

mathanxiety · 20/11/2010 23:47

Esther or Ada. I can't warm to Martha at all. Strikes me as prim and at the same time a hen's name. Sort of clucky.

MissFlick · 21/11/2010 07:17

I love Ada!
