How many Lily's do you know? Just trying to get an idea of exactly how popular it is in real life rather than just on the name stats list!I don't know any.

Aged 11, 4 and 4

hate to say it but it is the most popular girls' name I can think of based on children I've encountered... there have been at least 5 at DDs nursery and I can think of a couple more local baby Lily's.... popularity usually doesn't bother me that much but I'm afraid to say it has killed off the name Lily for me! sorry but you did ask!

JeMeSouviens · 05/11/2010 20:41

2, one we met on holiday about 8yo, and just born

HelenaRose · 05/11/2010 20:43

Only a west highland terrier, and a girl I went to drama class with who must be in her mid-twenties by now.

AnnOnimous · 05/11/2010 22:53

None at all.

Beamur · 05/11/2010 22:54

None (West Yorks)

HeavenForfend · 05/11/2010 22:56

My cousin's baby's name, and I know about 3 others.

Really wanted it for dd2 but dh thought it too popular - but there are no Lilys at all in her year group of 45 girls. Grr.

Don't worry about popularity - you won't necessarily know any others.

NoahAndTheWhale · 05/11/2010 22:58

One 4 year old and one in year 1 (not sure if or 6)

NoahAndTheWhale · 05/11/2010 23:04

Not sure if 5 or 6 that should say

perpetuallypregnant · 06/11/2010 00:00

I have a 7 yo Lily, I don't know any older than her but there are now another 2 in her school.

I have heard of 2 baby Lily's being born. I still love the name, it's popular because it's lovely!

flopsy1974 · 06/11/2010 13:32

really popular here in S.Yorkshire along with all the Lexi's, Olivias and Maddisons. Most have May on the end of their name too.

ZZZenAgain · 06/11/2010 13:33

I know 5

Doozie · 06/11/2010 16:59

4 under 4 (but none of those know each other)
1 Great-grandmother called Lilly but full name is Lillian

Faaamily · 06/11/2010 17:43

I know it's supposed to incredibly common, but I only know two. One is an adult and she is Lili (short for Liliana). The other is a five year old Lily.

i agree with perpetually. It's common for a reason. A lovely name, suits all ages.

Ineedsomesleep · 06/11/2010 17:46

Too many to count. Hasn't a MNer posted on here recently that it's actually the most popular girl's name for 2009?

violethill · 06/11/2010 18:20

About 15 - but I'm a teacher!

FairyArmadillo · 06/11/2010 18:31

1 in our toddler group and there was a baby Lily in the ward when my son was born. I remember not knowing it was a popular name and thought it was lovely.

skippingturtle · 06/11/2010 20:01

Two, both under three.

katiepotatie · 06/11/2010 20:05

one, my auntie and she's 62 Smile

hillyhilly · 06/11/2010 20:09

At least a dozen

candyflossbaby · 06/11/2010 20:46

I know a 15 year old, two babies born in last month, and about three under the age of 2. Its popular round here (dorset) and hear the name being called in the park/supermarket.

Lovely name though.

bluesmile10 · 06/11/2010 20:50

4 - varying from newborn to 8

Simbacatlives · 06/11/2010 20:51

Can I second the cat!!! But it is a lovely name and she is a cute cat.

mollycuddles · 06/11/2010 20:54

My mum is a Lilian but her father RIP called her Lily. He had a sister also called Lily who died in the big flu epidemic in 1918. A friend who lives in Wales has a dd called Lily. I live in Ireland. And that's it. If we have a dd3 she will be Lily.

saffy85 · 07/11/2010 13:34
  1. 2 aged under 5, 1 aged about 80. I'm just outside London.

Love the name. Don't see why how much a name is used is an issue myself. If you like it, go for it! Smile
