How many Lily's do you know? Just trying to get an idea of exactly how popular it is in real life rather than just on the name stats list!I don't know any.

I don't know any! I think I know of one little girl who has it as a middle name but don't know any with it as a first name. I've heard it being called in the supermarket/play area etc so I know there are a few around here. I like it! Smile

Actually, I prefer Lilia - sounds more like an adult's name.

There is a Lily in DD's school (out of 90 girls).

Think there is one in the infant school I work at (out of 270 children.)

None!

Two under five and one elderly woman.

I was actually thinking about this name the other day. I think it is a sweet name but it seems somewhat ironic on a heavy-set, unattractive child. Sounds harsh but there you go. I would probably only name my child Lily if I could guarantee that they would be delicate and sweet, which is definitely not in my or DH's genes!

Lily is timeless imo. But then I would say that. Didn't occur to me about how popular it might be.

My name is pretty meh. I'd have preferred something either timeless or aleast more of the time I was born rather than 2 decades out of date.

People get so sniffy about names which are well used, but way I see it they are well used for a reason.... coz their nice. I guess if it's that important to you that no one else shares their name, give them a name that no one else would ever want to call their DC. Like fart Bum, for example.

Two many to count here in Surrey...

"Don't see why how much a name is used is an issue"
Perhaps you didn't grow up with a very popular name, but I happened to and hated it, always being known as little XX or XX surname initial. My name, a typical 70s name, also dates me to that period. I wish I'd been given a more unique, timeless name if I'm honest.

  1. 2 aged under 5, 1 aged about 80. I'm just outside London.

Love the name. Don't see why how much a name is used is an issue myself. If you like it, go for it! Smile

My mum is a Lilian but her father RIP called her Lily. He had a sister also called Lily who died in the big flu epidemic in 1918. A friend who lives in Wales has a dd called Lily. I live in Ireland. And that's it. If we have a dd3 she will be Lily.

I know a 15 year old, two babies born in last month, and about three under the age of 2. Its popular round here (dorset) and hear the name being called in the park/supermarket.

Lovely name though.

1 in our toddler group and there was a baby Lily in the ward when my son was born. I remember not knowing it was a popular name and thought it was lovely.
