Will, because I am not keen on the alliteration.

puffling · 01/10/2010 12:51

They're both very normal pleasant names. There's not a lot between them.

ValiumSingleton · 01/10/2010 12:53

Jake. I like alliteration.

Will Jordan sounds incomplete to my ear.

scottishmummy · 01/10/2010 12:54

not Jake!Jake in scotland=plooky daft bawbag.if you have any scottish connection whatsoever never call your son Jake. stand shouting Jake, oh jakie and you'll die wi fright what appears

badcoverversion · 01/10/2010 13:09

I prefer Will myself.

evansk77 · 01/10/2010 13:20

Whatever you choose (and they're both good, solid names) I'd have him registered as either Jacob or William. You can then shorten it how you please but when he grows up, he can choose what suits him and maybe use the nickname with friends and the full name in his work. I read somewhere that helps with emplyment or something - more likely to be taken seriously or somehing.

William not Will - please

Jake or Jacob are nice, but prefer Jacob

seenyertoeslately · 01/10/2010 13:33

According to my Dad, his generation used to refer to the outside loo (earth closet, mushrooms growing up the back, rectangles of newspaper hanging on a loop of string for wiping) as 'the jakes'. That's what it means to me.

I'd go for Will.

coraltoes · 01/10/2010 13:37

William NN Will...that way when you walk into his room and he is hanging the cat from the curtain rail you can shout his full length naughty name!

bigbluebump · 01/10/2010 14:13

Will is far too close to Willy Grin.

poppydaisy · 01/10/2010 14:16

I prefer Jacob to William.

Jake is a nice nickname, but agree that Will wil likely get teased with willy... and will is a verb and someone's last wish... in other words to my ears it is not a name.

purplehatpipeandboots · 01/10/2010 14:22

Will gets my vote.

evamummy · 01/10/2010 14:24

There is indeed a little boy in ds's class called William and he gets teased with Willy Sad, so I'd probably avoid it for that reason.

Jakob or Jacob is lovely though.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 01/10/2010 14:26

I like them both! but im biased my DS is named one and my nephew the other!

othersideofchannel · 01/10/2010 14:30

I don't see the attraction of Will at all, I'm afraid. It is a verb (will), it is a noun (a will) and it is almost the name of a penis.

It will also not translate well into other languages. In German for example will means want (so Ich will = I want), so not a very international name.

Jacob is far nicer for that reason alone imo.

othersideofchannel · 01/10/2010 14:32

And Will Jordan sounds like the beginning of a sentence: Will Jordan please come here?

jellybeans · 01/10/2010 14:48

I like Jake.

telsa · 01/10/2010 15:33

Despite associations with outside loos, I love Jake.

othersideofchannel · 01/10/2010 17:42

Associations with outside loos Confused?

scottishmummy · 01/10/2010 19:47

yes,jake is colloquialism for bog,cludgie

beccagrace2 · 01/10/2010 20:15

i'm not sure about will jordan, as prev post says it sounds a bit incomplete, but will/william is a lively name....imo Jake is terrible and nothing like will/william. How about joseph, like jake but more classic like william, and Joe is just a lovely nn.

hulabula · 01/10/2010 22:16

I don't really like either but would find the Will(y) associations more teaseworthy among young boys than the outdoor loo association of Jake.

Niecie · 01/10/2010 22:25

I have a Jacob/Jake so I am biased. Never heard the loo thing though.

He doesn't have a reputation with the teachers - he is a bit of a goody two shoes really but I always think of Jakes as good natured and charming which most of the time he is.

Will is OK but don't like William and there is the willy connection and also I think of Will Carling and think sleazebags so I would never chose it.

ivykaty44 · 01/10/2010 22:29

Will
