Autumn as a girls name??!! Love the name but don't know whether it is a step too far? Smile

Have two other DCs.

Have a friend with an autumn. Have to say that i thought it was a bit unusual when I heard but not seriously eyebrow raising weird. And now I'm used to it I think it's pretty.

pilates · 30/09/2010 10:38

Yeah go for it - I like it.

rachel234 · 30/09/2010 10:38

Only you will know if you're brave enough Smile.

It is not my taste, but there is nothing wrong with the name. Only issue might be pronounciation in other languages.

FingonTheValiant · 30/09/2010 10:39

I quite like it, it's very pretty. I assume it will be for an actual autumn baby? Not so good for a May birthday :)

sophiesmummie · 30/09/2010 10:42

Yes, it is quite pretty. But it will indeed be very tricky to pronounce in any language other than English...

champagnesupernova · 30/09/2010 10:53

It's the name of Peter Phillips canadian wife isn't it?
Nice enough and certainly nicer than Summer imo.
There is a MN adage though that if you question "am I brave enough?" you probably aren't. Grin
Would agree it would need a Sept/Oct birthday though in N hemisphere.

BuntyPenfold · 30/09/2010 10:55

I know a lovely Autumn with auburn hair.

DastardlyandSmugly · 30/09/2010 10:58

Like it - very pretty.

Restrainedrabbit · 30/09/2010 10:59

If you feel you need to be 'brave' to call your child a particular name, what does that say about the name?

littlewish · 30/09/2010 11:01

Love it!

LouMacca · 30/09/2010 11:51

Yes, go for it. Its pretty and its different.

Bue · 30/09/2010 11:53

I think it's the prettiest of the season names. And yes, it is the name of Peter Phillips' wife. I'd actually never heard it before her.

nigglewiggle · 30/09/2010 11:54

I like!

Journey · 30/09/2010 12:03

I think it is a pretty name in theory but not in practice. I heard a little girl being called this the other day and it just sounded silly. I liked the name until this happened!

Pasiphae · 30/09/2010 12:22

If you think you have to "brave" to use it, maybe it is not a name for you?

Or maybe use it as a middle name and find a name you are more comfortable with for the first name?

thereisalightanditnevergoesout · 30/09/2010 12:28

Ignore those who have a go at you about you being 'brave' to use it - you have to wonder what names they've chosen for their children and maybe they wouldn't be your choice.

Having said that, I don't think you have to be brave to use it - it's not totally way out or anything. I know an Autumn. She's lovely. I don't think anyone who knows her thinks it's a 'brave' name choice either.

minipie · 30/09/2010 12:29

I really like it (would have to be an Autumn baby though).

If not brave enough - middle name?

tammytoby · 30/09/2010 13:12

I don't think you need to think about the bravery aspect of using a less common name. I think it is a nice name and if you like it, then consider it.

However, I think the pronounciation issue is important and I agree that I cannot see Autumn being pronouncable in other languages (well, those that I know anyway).

migola · 30/09/2010 13:12

go for it

mimimomma · 30/09/2010 13:48

I agree with thereisalight..it's a perfectly lovely name and not way-out or faddy at all. A good choice (especially if she has auburn hair :) )

Kathleen123 · 30/09/2010 15:06

I love the name too. I also love Summer.

thebrightside · 30/09/2010 15:09

I don't think it's that unusual now, go for it, very pretty

yellowflowers · 30/09/2010 18:56

It is lovely

Beanie10 · 30/09/2010 19:11

I knew a little girl called Autunm Lilly born about 8 years ago now and I think it's a lovely name
