Do you like either, neither or are you frankly not in the slightest bit interested in what I intend to call my wombfruit?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Meglet · 18/09/2010 21:24

I really like both of them.

passionberry · 18/09/2010 21:24

I love Harper for a girl but Zoe Williams (of Guardian fame) has nicked it!

Tortoise · 18/09/2010 21:25

Ellis is OK but i really don't like Harper for a Girl.

BelligerentGhoul · 18/09/2010 21:25

Ellis is lovely but I don't like Harper.

cece · 18/09/2010 21:27

They are nice enough names, no one will laugh if that is what you mean. Not ones that I would choose but the important thing is do you like them?

FourEyesGood · 18/09/2010 21:29

I teach a girl called Ellis and a boy called Harper (in a class which also has two Morgans, one of each variety). Both personally and professionally, I much prefer names to be gender-specific.

DaisyDaresYOU · 18/09/2010 22:13

I wanted to call ds ellis.oh my did i av everyone on my case.you can't call a child that type comments.i actually like it though.Harper is really not nice though sorry

WinkyWinkola · 18/09/2010 22:15

Harper I like. But could it be shortened to Harpy when she has a row with her boyfriend? Easy ammo?

Wombfruit! Brilliant!

5inthebed · 18/09/2010 22:16

Ellis is a lovely name, but Harper sounds quite mascueline, not a girls name at all.

SixtyFootDoll · 18/09/2010 22:17

I like them both

bluebump · 18/09/2010 22:17

I like both. My friend has an Ellis and he is lovely.

DuelingFanjo · 18/09/2010 22:17

I would spell it Elis. It's efinitely a boy's name.

I love Harper.

kiwidreamer · 18/09/2010 22:24

I think you should stick with 'wombfruit' Smile Smile love it!

Seriously tho, Ellis is nice for a lad, Harper is okay but a little try-hardish / harsh sounding for a girl (makes me think of nasty upper east side New York Gossip Girl types)

scottishmummy · 18/09/2010 22:29

wombfruit!?are you being sarcastic with lentil munching mummy goddess terms.i hope so

btw, like ellis (but is getting v popular) and like harper as in harper lee

MyMamaToldMe · 18/09/2010 22:35

Love both names

proudfoot · 19/09/2010 03:39

Ellis is lovely

I don't like Harper - it sounds too masculine and it's a surname (in fact I work with a right cow going by the surname Harper)

nooka · 19/09/2010 03:45

I'm not too keen on either, both a bit androgynous and surnamey. Plus there is a Harper in Wizards of Waverly Place and she is annoying (I have to watch this program way too often Grin)

TessOfTheBurbs · 19/09/2010 11:20

Not keen, sorry. Harper Lee is actually Nell Harper Lee in real life... I like Nell. Harper makes me think of "harping on and on" and I just don't think it's a pleasant sound.

sedgiebaby · 19/09/2010 12:31

I like Ellis for a girl more than for a boy, Harper I like too, quite popular in the US I think.

ValiumSingleton · 19/09/2010 12:34

Harper for a girl is about as ugly as a name can be.

Yes I know about the literary associations. I'm not missing that. It's still awful. HArpie for short. That's actually better than Harper.

bleurghghgh

polkadottytotty · 19/09/2010 16:02

I have a Harper but he is a boy, but generally most of the other Harper's I've heard of are female.
I love it obviously - my baby name book says it means artistic and musical, which swung it for me.

sophiesmummie · 19/09/2010 17:05

Ellis is a great boy's name imo. Classic, easy to pronounce and not overused!

I'm less keen on Harper for a girl.

tartyhighheels · 19/09/2010 17:11

wombfruit: ewwwwwww, that alone makes me feel a bit squicky

and no to both names as ellis is a bit androgenous and vague and harper for a girl is not nice and very American and made up - both awfully surnamey

mathanxiety · 20/09/2010 01:35

I can't get away from the thought of Harpic. Or Harp, not unrelated.

I think Ellis is a bit wet personally -- prefer Elliott.

Rach109 · 20/09/2010 21:47

I have a ( male) Ellis :) he and I and everyone loves his name
we do not know of another with the same name ( male or female!)

I also like Elliot and Elijah

hmm not keen on Harper for a girl, bit harsh
