Like - its my name. Judging by the number of posts on here recently about it I think its going to become very popular soon (I know of only 1 other Naomi my age - mid 30's), and I was at school with her.

Love it. It was my suggestion for DC2 (if it's a girl) but DH said no.

LynetteScavo · 04/09/2010 15:52

It was on my list for DD.

Sounding good so far!

Am due in 8 weeks and haven't yet found a girls name I love, just came across this on a baby name thread and loved it.

Munch - have you always had a good reaction to your name? Anything bad about it that you can think of?

Just be prepared for the fact that not everyone will pronounce it the way you want it pronounced.

bytheMoonlight · 04/09/2010 16:28

I'm used to that with dd, she's called Eva but people call her Ava Hmm

Lovely - I have one!

Eglu · 04/09/2010 16:33

It's okay. Aslong as It's pronounced Nay-omi, rather than N-eye-omi.

pointydog · 04/09/2010 16:38

I really like Naomi and hav e always been surprised at how underused it is. Lovely sound.

pointydog · 04/09/2010 16:39

oh look! If belligerent has a naomi it must be a class name Wink

BelligerentGhoul · 04/09/2010 16:44

Awwww - thank you! It still seems fairly uncommon around here: only know of one other teenager with it, one adult and no little ones.

pointydog · 04/09/2010 16:45

I have never properly known a Naomi. Scandalous underuse of name.

Hassled · 04/09/2010 16:47

Like. I've only ever known nice Naomis.

jellybeans · 04/09/2010 16:52

I like it, there were lots back when I was at school, most were nicknamed 'Nay' but I know of a little girl who gets 'Omi' which is cute. Only annoying thing is when people say Nye omi.

Runoutofideas · 04/09/2010 16:54

It depends how much you stress the "o" sound. I've known a Nay a mee and a nye oh mee both spelt Naomi. Nayamee is prettier in my opinion.

BelligerentGhoul · 04/09/2010 16:54

Mine has never been called Nay, to my knowledge. She often gets G-nome though!

bytheMoonlight · 04/09/2010 16:55

I would use pronouce it Nay-omi

OP posts:
Remotew · 04/09/2010 17:01

Love it Wink. IME it does get shortened to Nay by fellow teens though. And Omi by toddlers.

Runoutofideas · 04/09/2010 18:23

Both Naomis I have known were shortened to Nim.

dinkystinky · 04/09/2010 18:30

love it - was on my girls name list (have 2 boys). The only Naomi I know had it shortened to Gnome Grin - but she was australian so it kind of fitted with the pronounciation...

Quenbioz · 04/09/2010 18:30

Lovely name :) I like the pronounciation NAY-o-me.

MamaLazarou · 04/09/2010 18:53

Beautiful name. I really dislike the Nye-OH-mee pronunciation, though.

TooBlessedToBeStressed · 04/09/2010 20:17

its beautiful,and it means PLEASANT.
And its my little girl's middle name,we live in an scandinavian country and so far haven't seen or heard anyone with that name,so that makes it exotic

FWITW ,i always get great feedback on tha name.

TooBlessedToBeStressed · 04/09/2010 20:19

and we call her Nay-omi too, sounds better than the others.

marjean · 04/09/2010 20:34

i'm one too - a nay-a-mee. And my best friend at school was a nay-oh-mee. I love love love it now, though it's always a pain introducing myself. Because I'm not a nye-oh-mi people always think I'm called Amy. And hardly anyone can spell it - all those vowels... No reason not to choose it though - it's a beautiful name.
