Velveteen - cool, cruel or just mental

A friend of a friend is slightly obsessed with the name Velveteen for a girl.

I can't figure out what I think about it - on one hand the name Velvet does seem kinda boho and pretty but on the other it's reminisant of a stripper.

Whats your opinion on it?

I think of rabbits.....velvet is ok though.

What's that American fake cheese? Velveeta? That's what comes to mine first. And then it's a bit like calling a child acrylic, or Polyester - basically not the real stuff.

Velveteen is actually a fabric which is a cheap, nasty alternative to velvet.

Does she have a partner? If so, fear not, for surely 2 grown adults couldn't think this was a suitable name for a child.
