Velveteen - cool, cruel or just mental

A friend of a friend is slightly obsessed with the name Velveteen for a girl.

I can't figure out what I think about it - on one hand the name Velvet does seem kinda boho and pretty but on the other it's reminisant of a stripper.

Whats your opinion on it?

Sounds like a cheap suit. Is that the tone they are trying to strike?

I knew a Velvet once but she was posh enough to carry it off.

Velvetina might be okay...? Gives kiddy the option of a normal Tina, but if she grows into a hippy or and artist I guess she'd love the name Velvet.
