I'm thinking of changing my ds's name. This was one I originally liked but was too scared to use.
I'd just like to know what people think of this name.
Thanks

My cat was called Neo when we got him and I changed his name.

Neo is a bonkers name for a child, sorry.

ShowOfHands · 01/09/2010 20:18

It's a brilliant name.

So brilliant that I've just changed dd's, dh's and both cats' names to Neo. We are the Neos. I'm keeping my name. We are SOH and the Neos. We sounds like a band.

allbie · 01/09/2010 20:24

sorry makes me the think of neoplasm and usually I'm pretty open to unconventional names. Who was it that dissed Luna Indigo? Fab name!

BettyButterknife · 01/09/2010 22:26

What about Nico?

SirBoobAlot · 01/09/2010 22:31

Stick with Liam. Its much nicer. Neo is horrible and very harsh IMO.

Oh, and I was younger than you when The Matrix came out, and I remember it, so no excuse Grin

NewbieT · 01/09/2010 22:35

Fwiw, I really like it. It's different but still sounds classic .

I love the name Neo and i really liked it for my boy. I've met 2 lovely Neo's and they were both Swedish (and very cute). The thing that put me off is that apparently it means 'mole' in italian, not hot for future girlfriends!
Also like Nico and Milo :)

crumpet · 02/09/2010 01:07

Are you funky as a family? Do you all have unusual names? Do you live in a home like this? <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.struikandhamerslag.nl/images/projects/ladyinblue/525%2520x%2520349/Lady_in_Blue_0842.jpg&imgrefurl=www.struikandhamerslag.nl/pages/projects_photos_gallery.html&h=350&w=525&sz=197&tbnid=74lGLf9jI810CM:&tbnh=88&tbnw=132&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dphoto%2Bcontemporary%2Binteriors&zoom=1&hl=en&usg=__Jkc-JOND7TdfgKN1zCpD1fM3j3A=&sa=X&ei=Aup-TICjJsK7jAfh78jzCg&ved=0CDIQ9QEwBA" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=www.struikandhamerslag.nl/images/projects/ladyinblue/525%2520x%2520349/Lady_in_Blue_0842.jpg&imgrefurl=www.struikandhamerslag.nl/pages/projects_photos_gallery.html&h=350&w=525&sz=197&tbnid=74lGLf9jI810CM:&tbnh=88&tbnw=132&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dphoto%2Bcontemporary%2Binteriors&zoom=1&hl=en&usg=__Jkc-JOND7TdfgKN1zCpD1fM3j3A=&sa=X&ei=Aup-TICjJsK7jAfh78jzCg&ved=0CDIQ9QEwBA

If so then yes, Neo could work. If you and your DP are called Sarah and Dave and you live in a bog standard 3 bed semi then the name will seem naff and too try hard/derivative rather than imaginative and cool

Concordia · 02/09/2010 01:11

i'm sorry to say this but it makes me think prene.
however, if you are really unhappy with liam then change it, you have up to a year and honestly no one will bother to notice much if he is only a few months old. but not to neo, imho.

Concordia · 02/09/2010 01:12

agree nico and leo are better options

tapan · 02/09/2010 20:00

prene?! wow i must be getting old

I love the name Liam. Prefer it to Neo, for what it's worth.

ValiumSingleton · 03/09/2010 12:30

neo!? I just hear the word 'nazi' hanging in the air unsaid after Neo. I've never seen those matrix films though.

I prefer Liam (obviously), and as suggested by a pp, a more subtle change to Leo would be lovely and perhaps be more your style?!

facebook · 03/09/2010 15:09

liam is not to my taste, immediately makes me think of monobrows and bad 90s brit pop but please go for Leo not Neo!

facebook · 03/09/2010 15:10

Also, people are likely to accept Leo as it's similar sound to liam but much nicer!

tapan · 06/09/2010 21:29

thanks everyone for your replies. i've decided against changing his name. his sister's too cute when she goes around saying hello to people and, unsure of what to say next, looks at her brother and says 'baby brother. his name's liam'. or when she looks at him and says 'liiiiiam, hello liam...'. I just can't do it.

ROFL at TSH - I agree that Morpheus is actually a name

ReshapeWhileDamp · 06/09/2010 22:49

I've been expecting you, Mr. Henderson.

Just don't. Poor child.

GladioliBuckets · 07/09/2010 16:14

OP, don't be offended, do you think you might have PND? Just that this kind of name change dwelling panic is often a distraction from other issues. You don't have to answer that, just have a think.

tapan · 08/09/2010 21:27

thank you for your concern gladiolibuckets. no, i don't have pnd. and neither is my concern regarding my son's name a 'panic'.

maybe you would like to have a think about why you see concern and thought to the future as dwelling and panic.

GirlofCadiz. He is YOUR baby and whatever anyone says, it is up to YOU and your partner what you call him. As he is only a few months old, people will get used to it. It is VERY simple to change a baby's name under a year old as long as they haven't been baptised - you just re-register. Not complicated AT ALL. If you don't change it, you will regret it. I know because we are changing our son's middle names (but keeping his first which took us the whole six weeks to get to!!!) Never heard of Neo (Nee- o or Ney-o, how do you pronounce it?) It is a bit similar to Noah but I recently heard of a family with 2 boys - one called James and one called Jamie!!! Do you like Teo?? (Tay-o) I love tha one and can be short for Matteo! Good luck! Just do it!

fivecrazymonkeys · 08/09/2010 22:01

Sorry my las msg should have been for Tapan not Girl of Cadiz!!!!!
