Opinions on my top choice boys name please...

We think we have decided on our son's name but I'd like your opinions...I just don't know if I'm brave enough to go with it even though I love it! I'm worrying that (although I've liked it for years) I might go off it in a few years and it might sound dated as I think it is becoming fashionable again...

ok, so my first choice name is Milo. Middle name would be Patrick after my Dad and our surname is one syllable.

I am worrying about what others will think of it...so waiting until he arrives to stop relatives putting me off the name with comments such as 'Milo? Where did you get that from?' Or 'Isn't that one of the characters of that kids show...?'

Possible stand-by names are Leo or Max, though i think Max would be too short and I don't absolutely love it, just quite like it.

We know a Milo - and he does get the Tweenie references, I'm afraid. Has done all his school life and is now 14. But he was named just as the programme was at its most popular - it was a bit like naming your child Peppa back in the day! Not sure it's such a popular show now.

What about Patrick Milo instead? But I would say that, wouldn't I.........

Milo is a good name, I know a little Milo of about 3 years old. Nothing at all wrong with it. If you love it, use it. Peoples' association of the name will soon be of your son rather than the Tweenies character.

Wouldn't use Patrick as a first name, while I want to acknowledge my Dad somehow it seems unfair not to give a unique little person a 'unique' name, as in one that is not already used in the immediate family.

Doobydoo, what does your Milo think of his name? (or is he too young to have an opinion?). I have only heard of one other Milo and that was in a park so doesn't really count.

theagedparent - really hope you're right about Tweenies, we had considered this name 3 years ago thinking it couldn't possibly last much longer (we had a girl in the end though!)

Personally I'm not keen on Milo. And I don't think your ds will thank you for being named after a chocolate drink.

I'm not really bothered about the drink - its not like I'm calling him 'Smirnoff' or 'Nescafe' is it? How many people actually buy that drink anyway? Its not the first thing that springs to my mind at all, but do appreciate your thoughts.

I like Milo. I considered it as it is a family name and hugely pre-dates the tweenies!

There is a boy in dd's class called Milo and as far as I know, the tweenies thing is not much of an issue. In 5 years time when your child gets to school, the tweenies may be a (hopefully) distant memory in any event.

So far he likes it! He is 3 and ahalf.I suppose you could call him Jack[but what about the beanstalk] or Henry [but what about Horrid HenryI think you get my point

I think Milo is gorgeous. And unusual. Don't really watch Tweenies and people called Florence from our generation presumable don't get labelled with Florence from the Magic roundabout or Rosie's from The Flumps. Don't get that whole thing.

I like Milo, a friend's baby DS is called this.

It is quite trendy though, as are most names ending in o.

I prefer Leo or Miles, they're much more sophisticated. Even Ivo, Rollo, Hugo or Jago are similar but a lot better. I mean, can you imagine someone called Milo being a high court judge or an MP? No offence to anyone who has a Milo, it's just not to my taste.

Slightly unrelated I know, but I have a friend called Malo; St Malo was a Welsh saint who did something important in Brittany.

Max is timeless and will grow with him to.

I love it. I am pregnant with DC2 and it's on my list if this one's a boy! Be brave!

I really like Milo and got quite "stuck" on it as THE name if we have a boy but now not as sure (DH HATES it!) Think I'd go for Miles though and use Milo as nickname so as to give DS option of a more grown-up option.

Agree that whilst it does remind me a bit of the tweenies, I don't think they'll be around forever and it's not a bad association anyway. And I've never heard of the drink, am I missing something?!

I don't mind Milo but being Australian, I couldn't name my child it because of the drink. I also think it's not great for an adult. As someone noted above - can you imagine a high court judge being called Milo?

Love Max and Leo. Love, love, love. In fact Max is our current top choice for our baby due in November.
