I love it

PYT · 22/08/2010 11:41

Indie? No no no.

Bagpusstree · 22/08/2010 13:07

Prefer India. Indie reminds me of Indiana Jones, but India could be shortened to Indie if you wanted.

India Rose is lovely I think.

DessieLou · 22/08/2010 13:31

Love it! So pretty.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 22/08/2010 13:33

I prefer India as Indie reminds me of the style of music which im not keen on but it is a nice name on thw whole.

FallingWithStyle · 22/08/2010 13:40

Indie as in Independant Record Label?
No. no, no, no...

Heathcliffscathy · 22/08/2010 13:46

what about indie schmindie?

:o

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 22/08/2010 13:53

Lovely name
Not sure about Rose, really, but is sounds nice with Indie.

MrsBadger · 22/08/2010 14:28

Indie?

No

it's not a name,
it's barely even a word,
it's an abbreviation of 'independent'

Now if, in an African or Carribean Christian vein, your existing children are called (eg) Joyous, Dedication, Hosanna and Perseverance, then you may call her Independent.
Not otherwise.

laurenamium · 22/08/2010 15:19

Thanks everyone! I did like India, but then thought that if I was going to call her India with the intention of shortening her name then I might aswell go for the shortened version of it?

India Rose is lovely too

BuzzingNoise · 22/08/2010 16:07

Rose is nice. Indie is not.

diddl · 22/08/2010 16:11

India Rose is lovely.

CharlieBoo · 22/08/2010 16:13

I have to say I don't like Indie or India for a girl, I personally would hate to be called India. I LOVE Indianna for a boy though, although it's always associated with Indianne Jones.

"Thanks everyone! I did like India, but then thought that if I was going to call her India with the intention of shortening her name then I might aswell go for the shortened version of it?"

Hi

I don't agree, as it gives the child the option of using the "proper" name if she wants to. My friends child was named Charles but no one has EVER called him that. He has always been Charlie. But Charles is on the birth certificate and I guess when he's grown up, he may prefer to call himself Charles.

Indie isn't a name and isn't really a word either. Calling her India gives her the option of having a "proper" name.

I would go with India and call her Indie if you like. Failing that there's always Indira. But then Indira Rose is too many R's close together.

lurcherlover · 22/08/2010 20:17

Indie isn't very dignified to me. Cute when she's tiny, but not when she's an adult. If you want it, call her India then she always has the option of using the full name in formal settings. You can use the nn Indie but it gives her the choice.

LetThereBeRock · 22/08/2010 20:29

India yes.Indie no.

LetThereBeRock · 22/08/2010 20:29

How can Indie be the shortened version? It has the same number of letters in it.Confused

southeastastra · 22/08/2010 20:33

i think you should go for it

SirBoobAlot · 22/08/2010 21:25

Indie isn't a real name.

India is a country.

Indie Rose conjures up to me a hippie who doesn't wash or shave and lives in the clouds.

bearcrumble · 22/08/2010 21:45

It's ridiculous. You're hormonal. Sorry.

Hulababy · 22/08/2010 21:49

I like India Rose.

Is Indie short for something?

Housewife2010 · 22/08/2010 22:03

Indie is daft. Think of the child as a 50 year old with a responsible job, introducing themselves at a conference. Give them the option of a sensible name. India is fine.

itsybitsy08 · 22/08/2010 22:33

imo india does not sound any more sensible than indie anyway.

Indie is Cute as a child and quirky for an adult, not a daft spelling and easy to say.

I like it :)

meadowlarks · 22/08/2010 22:53

I know a girl whose name is Indie Rose. She is the most awful girl I have ever met. Coming a close second on the awful scale is a girl called India. Just a thought.
