I would go for India with Indie as more of a nickname.

5DollarShake · 23/08/2010 08:31

For the love of God, don't call the poor child Indie. Grin

Out of interest, is it compulsory to give all girls with the name India, the middle name Rose? I know Rose is a default middle name anyway, but I have heard the India Rose combo so often anyway. There's also a chi-chi soft furnishings shop called India Rose.

TheBolter · 23/08/2010 08:45

India Rose one of my top names, however as 5dollar says - awfully chi chi and soft furnishings.

It's like Olivia Grace - very popular combination, as is Honey Mae (I know three!).

Thanks everyone! Definitely some pause for thought there! 5Dollar and Bolter are you from the US? I don't think I have heard of chi chi furnishings but Im from the UK

No, lol, from the UK... chi chi was a term my old boss at an interiors shop used to use frequently...

Cortina · 23/08/2010 13:17

I know of an 'Indiana' (girl) nm 'Indy' and it reminds me of this one. People might assume Indiana?

5DollarShake · 23/08/2010 14:09

No, not from the US. Grin. I just mean the sort of shop that ladies who lunch might frequent.

laurenamium · 23/08/2010 16:20

ahhh right I get you now!

Don't like this, sorry. It sounds like a Jaqueline Wilson character.

Katy86 · 23/08/2010 17:14

I LOVE IT! X

Emo76 · 23/08/2010 19:11

Indie Rose sounds like a tattoo parlour owner - I don't know why, sorry. India isn't too bad. Rose is a very popular middle name at the moment.

Apphia · 23/08/2010 20:09

Indie is awful.. India nice

susitwoshoes · 23/08/2010 20:11

India Rose is lovely.

Indie is a bit Indiana Jones . . .

Jenski · 24/08/2010 19:14

I have an Indy short for indigo. Middle name is poppy. She could not be anything else. I like the name Indy or indie.

zozzle · 24/08/2010 19:29

Love it!! - but would have India on her birth Cert with Indie as a nn.

Am not a fan of nick names on birth certs - always go for full version IMO.

laurenamium · 25/08/2010 10:57

Jenski Poppy was my other name choice! but then I found out there was a distant cousin with the same sirname to me called Poppy so it ruled it out!

India Rose would be better, and then you can shorten it as you like. But I would not want to name DC after a shop, so as much as I loved it, this would put me off.

morganlebuffay · 25/08/2010 11:20

"How can Indie be the shortened version? It has the same number of letters in it."

Because it has one fewer syllable? In-dee-a, in-dee?

Not wild about India but tons better than Indie as a given name.
