How would you pronounce Cosima?
I also like Eloise... Any thoughts?

CAWZ-i-ma Here's an example of German pronunciation

I adore this name. I would choose it over just about anything.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/08/2010 20:31

Love Eloise. Hate Cosima, sorry.

willsywoo · 20/08/2010 20:43

Cosima...dreadful...Eloise..lovely song..lovely name

LetThereBeRock · 20/08/2010 20:47

Cosima is horrid. Eloise is much nicer.

southeastastra · 20/08/2010 20:47

sound like a car, the ford cosima

zenoushka · 20/08/2010 21:27

Not so keen on Cosima. Know a Sima and i think that's pretty.

treedelivery · 20/08/2010 21:30

Cosima. Hmmm. Maybe it would sit better if this were continental europe. I'm afraid I am reminded of pants, probably incontinence ones.

Perhaps too near gossamer?

DirtyMartini · 20/08/2010 21:31

Prefer Eloise.

BellaBalloon · 20/08/2010 21:32

horatia · 20/08/2010 21:32

I like it :)

I much prefer it to Claudia and Cordelia which are popular on MN.

horatia · 20/08/2010 21:33

Eloise is lovely, also like Louisa.

zenon · 20/08/2010 21:35

headpiecefilledwithstraw · 21/08/2010 00:21

love Cosima but think it would work better in Italy.

diddl · 21/08/2010 08:31

Prefer Eloise, or better still Elise.

DetectivePotato · 21/08/2010 10:29

Cosima is terrible, but I like Eloise.

skylark23 · 21/08/2010 12:48

Thanks for all your feedback - really useful. Cosima seems to be a Marmite name! Eloise seems more popular - are there many young Eloises around? Not keen on nn Ellie though... prefer Ella.

I like Cosima but prefer Eloise (is my dd'd middle name). I know one 4 yr old Eloise (SW London) but no others.

I love Cosima and would pronounce it the Italian way. Eloise is used more often in England I expect. I like Eloise too but prefer Cosima.

onimolap · 21/08/2010 15:55

I love the name Cosima, but the only one I know in RL had it shortened to Cossie, which just screams 'bathing suit' to me.

SofiaAmes · 21/08/2010 15:58

My ex named his dd Cosima and they call her cossie for short which always makes me think of a bathing suit....ugh.

momino · 21/08/2010 20:33

Foxytocin, just out of curiosity, what other way is there to pronounce Cosima except exactly how it is spelt? I've never heard it pronounced in the UK any differently than I'd heard it in Italy.

momino · 21/08/2010 20:36

sorry, see where you might have been coming from: just heard the ever-so-slightly-different pronunciations in German and Italian. not a massive difference though.
