why can't i think of any names?...

pg with dd2 and cannot think of any names that i love, and very few that i like.

have started a thread before on how awful dp's name choices are so am trying to ignore him as much as poss.

the names i don't mind are,

Mia
Amelie
lola
Daisy
Alanna

the only name i would really push for is alanna, but sp's sis went nuts when he mentioned it to her as she has apparently had it on her list for ages. (she is 20, no bf and no plans for dc for at least 10 years btw). now dp is saying he doesn't like it as it will get shortened.

i have looked at so many name websites my head is starting to spin

should be dp*'s sis not sp's.

Why is it that you "don't mind" those names? Is it just that they don't really grab you (i.e. you think they're a bit "meh" and you're after something more exciting) or is it something else?

i say them with the surname and they sound ok but i don't go 'oh, i love it!' iyswim.

i want the impossible, a pretty, classic, rarely used name that can't be shortened.

I like Lola.

I love Alanna, and i would definately use it despite his sisters objections - i culd understand it if she was pregnant, but as she's not and not likely to be for the forseeable, then i'd go for it tbh.

thing is, she has a list of names she loves, i really don't see the harm in donating one to us for her 1st neice!

the rest of her list is a bit so thats the only name that stands out for me.

Ok, well here are a few other ideas, maybe one of them will grab you...

• Lena (v popular in Germany but presumably you aren't there!)

Re Amelie - it is quite popular (as is Mia) and Amelie will be shortened by some to Millie.

alan! or so my dp thinks. i have tried to tell him that if people can't shorten they generally just make it longer. i had the same issue with ds. wanted to call him jacob but didn't fancy jake so we went with jack. now know as jackie boy or jacko. can't win.

i know my dp would love Ilaria, i'm not 100% but i think it could grow on me.

myla is pretty much out dogs name!

surname is very unusual (imo) starts with d and ends in er so try to avoid names ending the same if poss.

Alan???? I dont know anyone that would ever even think that was a NN option?? I think she'd get Lana possibly, the pronounciation is quite different to Alan and its not a name that lends itself to shortening IMO.

I really like Alanna and think your DP's sister needs to grow up and get over herself!!
