hmmm what do you think?

I really like the idea of naming dc5 katherine if its a girl, then seeing which shortened version suits her as she grows up, whilst giving her the option of using any of the above as she grows older.

And katherine doesnt sound too bad shouted across the park does it?

I love Katherine, if we have dd2 it would be top of my list.

I like all shortenings too, particularly Kitty. Although DH might veto that. I would have to implement by stealth I think

NoahAndTheWhale · 25/07/2010 21:46

Katherine is a great name

DuelingFanjo · 25/07/2010 21:46

Katy with a Y?

funkychunkymunky · 25/07/2010 21:47

I like Katherine but you could consider Caitlin?

I have a Catherine. It's a beautiful name

misdee · 25/07/2010 21:55

not too sure on Caitlin as official name iyswim, but i think it can be used as a nickname.

reminds me, i should really inform the school that dd3 prefers to be called Nina and not Serena lol. it confuses people.

I like Katherine, and think it's a very good idea to give Katherine as the full name with the option of various shortened versions.

Icanseethesea · 25/07/2010 21:57

Love love love Katherine, have dd2 who is Katy

drivingmisscrazy · 25/07/2010 22:02

also have a Catherine - delighted with our choice (Catherine + surname in DP's family since the 1770s, but that's not why). Not shortened, though I am sure she will in due course (well, she's 18 months old, so calls herself Caaa. She loves saying 'Kay-tee' - that's her aunt, also Catherine (Kate)

nikki1978 · 25/07/2010 22:08

Well I am biased as my DD is Katie. I don't see it very often now (only in older people) but think it is a lovely name. Don't like it with a 'y' so much - don't know why though.

Of course you can use Katherine although I find most of my friends of that name ended up being called Kat when older (or Kate).

NiceCuppaT · 25/07/2010 22:10

Like Katy, Kitty and Kat

AlCrowley · 25/07/2010 22:27

If I were to name my Catherine all over again, I'd be tempted to change it to the K spelling. I love Katy, Kate and Kitty - not so keen on Cat or Cathy which I think are more likely with the C spelling.

It was the only spelling DH liked though.

misdee · 25/07/2010 22:39

Ah thank you, so am not mad.

its one name that both dh and i do like, though dont want to commit to anything yet as still dont know if its a bot or a girl;

OP posts:
drivingmisscrazy · 25/07/2010 22:51

hope you are not having a bot - would be a bit much after all that trouble

misdee · 25/07/2010 22:52

have a boys name sorted for many years now.

but ater 4 girls, i need to think of girls names carefully. No point choosing a way out girls name whilst the others are called

Nicole
Lauren
Serena
Sophie

I'm a Katharine but called Kathy in RL.

It's a lovely name, actually considering returning to my full name post divorce completion right now...

hairyclaireyfairy · 25/07/2010 23:00

Love Katherine, nn Katie

DandyDan · 26/07/2010 00:08

Katherine allows for Kathy, Kath, Kat, Kate, Katie, Kitty, and sillier fun nicknames like Katkin and Kitkat. It's a fine name.

polkadottytotty · 26/07/2010 09:03

I like it too - its classy and timeless. I particularly like Kitty as a nn when little and Kate when older.

violetsmile · 26/07/2010 09:07

Love it, one of mine and dh's faves. LOVE kitty and kate as a nn.

Kathleen123 · 26/07/2010 10:35

Kate or Katie are great shortenings. Not keen on Kathy. Kitty is also a cute shortening, not sure how it'd work on an adult.

  • Kate
zenoushka · 27/07/2010 16:51

Katherine is lovely, espeically with Kate as a nickname!

MrsJohnDeere · 27/07/2010 17:00

Katherine with Kate as nn is lovely.
