Hi.. I'm new, expecting my first daugher in about two weeks
So I was wondering, do you prefer the name Sophie, Evie, Emma, or something else entirely?

like them all actually, but in this order....

Sophie
Evie
Emma

Congrats!

SecretSlattern · 18/07/2010 07:10

We went with Emma for DD2 who is 7 weeks old, so that is my fave, followed by Sophie and then Evie.

tummytickler · 18/07/2010 07:45

Sophie and Emma are more classic than Evie, so I would pick one of those - probably Emma, because I like Em and Emmie for nn, and I have never been a fan of Sophie.
If you go for Evie, please use Eve or Eva on the bc and call her Evie as a nn, it is just too nicknamey and childish and I know i would rather be an adult Eva than an adult Evie.

megsophandemma · 18/07/2010 08:07

I love all three. Evie is very cute, although to me it sounds like a nickname for Eve IYKWIM I still like it though.

LadyMetroland · 18/07/2010 09:26

love love love Emma. To me it's the most classic name, and not at all popular any more. DH won't let me have it but I would if it could!

There are millions of Evies and Sophies but obviously if you love the names then use them

pebblejones · 18/07/2010 09:37

Emma... but I would say that, it's my name!

Northernlurker · 18/07/2010 09:39

Emma or Evangeline shortened to Evie. Sophie is sweet but you do get an awful lot of them.

Haliborange · 18/07/2010 09:40

Not Evie. It is very nice but there are altogether too many Evie/Eva/Ava/Eves.

Emma is my favourite out of those.

autodidact · 18/07/2010 09:47

Like all 3 but prefer Eve to Evie. One of my loveliest friends is called Sophie and she is very beautiful, elegant and kind, so that name has particularly good associations for me. I have a v nice friend called Emma too, though, and I guess that might be the least fashionable name of the 3 at the moment. Lots of Emily and Amelie/a but not so much Emma.

Ineedsomesleep · 18/07/2010 10:07

Please not Evie, I've met three new ones just this week. I also think that Evie sounds more like a nn.

Sophie and Emma are both lovely names.

violetsmile · 18/07/2010 10:49

Evie is veruy popular but that's cos it's a nice name so not always a bad thing. Emma to me is a bit boring but maybe because it was massively overused in the 80s and I am not sure it's quite due for a revival yet. Still a nice name though. Sophie is my least favourite, feels a bit too girly and frilly for my taste but if you like it then go for it. It's still pretty.

Hulababy · 18/07/2010 11:21

I like Evie best. Sophie and Emma nice too.

I know little girls with all three names. My 6mo niece is Emma.

LaRagazzaInglese · 18/07/2010 12:49

Emma, Evie is too popular and Sophie is pretty, I prefer Sofia. My sister couldn't choose between Emma or Ella but then went for Ella.

cece · 18/07/2010 13:03

I would go for Emma out of those 3 as it is the least popular of the three names.. Plus I like it best!

DrivenToDistraction · 18/07/2010 13:09

Emma. Much less popular and a real classic. Is originally a nn for Emmaline...

loobylu3 · 18/07/2010 13:14

I expect the OP knows that they are all popular names!

I love Eve nn Evie best.
Emma and Sophie and also nice names.

NormanNorris · 18/07/2010 14:07

Sophie. Dislike Emma (dated) and Evie is MEH.

valiumSingleton · 18/07/2010 14:40

I prefer Evie, but I think there would be fewer babies called Emma so for that reason I would choose Emma.

Both names go nicely with Sophie though.

Dated isn't always bad though. Dated can mean that you get a nice normal name that everybody has heard of and can spell but your dc will be the only one in her class. I don't think Emma is as dated as say Louise, to quote a name on another thread today. I wouldn't say Louise was unusable just because it's dated!

valiumSingleton · 18/07/2010 14:42

I have a friend called Emma and she is 45, so for years she had a 'dated' name, but I still thought it was beautiful.

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2010 14:42

Emma - but i would check gro to see where it is on list of poular names love emma simple classic name

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2010 14:45

31 for emma a drop of two places

Pinner35 · 18/07/2010 14:47

I have a Sophie and absolutely love the name. I like Evie too but prob wouldn'tuse it.Not keen on Emma at all.

ivykaty44 · 18/07/2010 14:51

I have a Sophie - there were always a few in each class through school - I still think it is a lovely name

FranSanDisco · 18/07/2010 15:47

I like Sophie, Evie and then Emma. I know lots of Emmas.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 18/07/2010 15:54
