Hi.. I'm new, expecting my first daugher in about two weeks
So I was wondering, do you prefer the name Sophie, Evie, Emma, or something else entirely?

I would choose Emma.
Evie is nice too.

Sophie is way too popular, IMO.

MamaLazarou · 18/07/2010 17:03

Sophie is nice. Can't stand Evil. I mean Evie!

CapitalText · 18/07/2010 19:01

Emma, although I like the others too. Prefer Sophia to Sophie, and would have Evie as a nickname for something.

KERALA1 · 18/07/2010 21:27

Would go for Emma. Eve/Evie is common (as in popular) to the point of ridiculousness. Most of the girls in dd's class are called Eve or some derivation of it.

Emma

MumInBeds · 18/07/2010 21:51

I like them all but I like Emma best as it's not used as frequently at the moment.

asbolutelyfabulous · 18/07/2010 21:55

I have a Sophie and I love the name. We move around quite a lot and I've found that it's a name that is known in many cultures, so no one really struggles with it, which makes it easier on our little one. (I have a very crap unusual name and always felt like the odd one out at school.)

If not for a very bad experience with an Emma, I may given that name to my DD though.

strandedatsea · 18/07/2010 22:00

I love Emma - it's dd1's name. It's classic and doesn't date, I know Emma's who are in their 40's, 20's and small children. Timeless.

CakeandRoses · 18/07/2010 23:34

The popularity of all three would put me off but I'm assuming that isn't an issue for you so will stick to commenting on the names themselves:

Sophie is the prettiest imo and works fine at any age. I know a little Sophia which I think is slightly less popular.

Emma is a lovely, classic name but it sounds a little flat to me - poss just its never gone out of fashion so they are so many emmas of all ages.
Emmeline would sound fresher and more individual.

Evie is one of the few top 100 names that I really can't stand, sorry. Sounds so limp, little girly and nick-namey. I'd choose Eve, Eva, Evangeline or Ella instead.

EightiesChick · 18/07/2010 23:42

Emma is IMO the most unusual of the three at the moment. It's also a 'classic' - you could argue Sophie is too. But Sophie and Evie both sound little-girly whereas Emma will work well onan adult too. So I'd say Emma.

freerangeeggs · 18/07/2010 23:42

I like them all!

Evie, though, I'd prefer as a full name as it is a bit nicknamey - Eve is lovely, as are Eva and Evelyn.

Emma is my name so obv I approve Although I'm 26 and I've always been Emma G because there were so many of us.

All three names, though lovely, are pretty popular. That may or may not bother you but is definitely something to consider. The UK top 100 names are available if you want to google them.

good luck!

Emma

Kathleen123 · 19/07/2010 10:54

I like Emma best.

Ineedsomesleep · 20/07/2010 21:42

PossibleyHuman have you settled on a name yet for your DD?

zenoushka · 21/07/2010 10:01

Sophie is classic and timeless.

I really Like Emma too.

Evie is very nice, but is VERY popular these days.

My favourite from the three is Sophie.

birdofthenorth · 21/07/2010 10:08

I vote Emma. Sweet, elegant and not over-used.

Like Sophie lots too, but it is v popular.

Evie is a lovely name but every other girl my friends have seems to be called Evie/ Eve/ Eva/ Evelyn at the mo! Or Ellie, Elle, Ella etc which to me is pretty similar.

Good names though!

PossiblyHuman · 31/07/2010 03:01

I had her 4 days ago.. We decided to go with Emma!
