The Quilts exhibition at the V&A

I didn't know there was one...now I know, I will certainly go.

I love the V&A and I'm a keen sewer.

DD like patchwork as it is "funny"?!

couldn't go but I have the book.
Am more interested in the historical ones than the modern ones (except for Grayson Perry's, which is great.)

tell us which ones you liked best

loved all the old ones - hated the modern why have you spent all that time and effort making soemthing which isn't a quilt at all and is just some random bits of material sewn together ones. Although did like the prison one.

Sorry but I think it just finished! I had wanted to go twice but only managed one visit.
I loved the Wandsworth prison quilt and the Grayson Perry was brilliant too (am huge fan of his and ran up to find his one pot in the glorious ceramics galleries, swoon, swoon, swoon)
I think I loved too many to mention. I find them strangely wonderful. They look so modern in design somehow don't you think?

All the little embroidered scenes were amazing in their detail, but full of life, and the overall design was incredibly bright and looked like it was made yesterday.

Whoops, yes, I should have said I love sewing not the sewer bit.

My boss once emailed saying his wife and he were rowing each weekend and I rang to say what was up, was he ok? And he said they needed the excercise!!!!

I thought they were rowing not rowing!

queenceleste I loved that one too -- I bought the tea towel.

I also liked the way a couple of them were displayed so you could see the back -- all the messy edges of someone's handiwork, and the bits of paper.

Anyone else been to the Quilt Museum in York? I think the modern quilts that were on show there when I went were actually better than the ones in the V&A catalogue - they worked as quilts as well as art IYSWIM.

I didn't know that there was a quilt museum in York - I would have loved to see the quilts at the V&A but London's a bit far for me - York is a bit more do-able.

And damn you for posting the link to the shop, queenceleste - best part of £20 that's cost me! I shall be telling dh it was all your fault.

I went to the one in London - LOVED it - agree the ones which were displayed so you could see the back were amazing...I invested moderately in fat quarters

Quilt museum Fairly pricey despite being small but excellent and well worth the money

Loved the exhibition. Especially seeing all the bits of peoples everyday lives melded together to make something so beautiful. My moment of reality was seeing the quilt for a newborn - DS1 would have wrecked that in 10 mins!!

My lovely mum got DS1 a quilt from Fine Cell (the wandsworth prison group) when he was born.
