Don't even understand the title! Sorry Jack

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 19:03

Yes, it doesn't make too much sense does it

What I mean is I have used tutorials such as this one to 'upcycle' a t shirt into a toddler dress and was wondering if there were any patterns for adult things...you know, like you turn jeans into a skirt or a bag?

What sort of thing did you have in mind?

Casual?
Formal?

Racy?

I've seen a few things around. D'you want tops/dresses/bottoms?

Give us a bleeding clue, woman. You can not wear a bag.

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 19:28

I can wear and sack though

anything really as I have bags of clothes for charity shop I can dig through.
Coming up I have girls night out drinking and dancing (cocktails and sweaty nightclubs type) and my birthday 'date' night out with DH.

I have a lovely black sort of fitted wrap over top and gathered skirt that I love but it's veyr boring and black that would be nice to tart up but need ideas, and fashionable ones

Oh, am large of nork (and arse) so not too skimpy mind

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 19:35

Jumper to cardi?

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 19:42

I like the adding doilies idea, have loads of them floating about with nothing to do!

To try and help I went on wardrobe refashion to mooch at the tutes and am stuck there now Will let you know if I've foundanythin g good when I manage to escape! Have you had a mooch on craftster refashion board for inspiation?

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 20:15

jeans to skirt

You could also crochet yourself a stonking corsage for a cardi.

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 20:30

cute but too casual?

This freaked me out a bit as this woman's voice is very similar to mine!

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 20:41

help! am lost in craftster!

Dh has just come back and told me he loves my black dress as it looks awesome on me
I have taken some pics and am just uplaoding them for advice on wtf I can do to make it look a bit glammer.

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 20:47

Got any bling?

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 20:50

corsage

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 20:52

You don't get pics of me in it!
here is shitty pic of the dress, it has nice gatheredish darted skirt so doesn't make my hips look huge and really long and impractical tie round the waist (it goes round about 3 times, and my waist is huge!
This is close up of top which is bit I don't like. Is fakey wrap thing, it is open but the waist is fixed. The white thing is a top to show you the neckline and it has shirt collar.
It's very plain black cotton, really comfy and suits me but bit plain.

Ideas? (have style sense of gibbon)

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 20:55

corsage different styley

Good presents if not your thing.

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 21:03

I am making a load of corsages for no real reason so that's easy enough, but where would I put it? And would you chop the collar/neckline? Was thinking maybe chopping it and bias binding around the edge and the wrap to 'define' it a bit, maybe a flower on the waist or soemthing?

Oh, and I really like this necklace was going to make one out of purple embroidery thread

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 21:12

Oh crap, just written a long post and lost it.

Starting again...

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 21:24

Right, I'd cut the collar off to get a smooth elegant line. Then you could edge it in contrasting bias, or ribbon, even a black ribbon would be nice and quite classy.

If you shortened the belt, could you then wear the dress with a contrasting belt over the top? Either a wide leather one or a nice fabric one. An obi one would be nice and tutorials online for this.

I really like that necklace. You could make an extra flower to attach to a bag, or wear in your hair, or on the belt.

Team with opaque tights - I tend to go black as legs ok but not best feature - although bright coloured opaques are very trendy now. Maybe coordinating with corsage or doing a trendy clashing thing.

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 21:25

That black ribbon should have velvet next to it!

OrmRenewed · 22/04/2010 21:25

upcycling? Blimey I have had too much wine

KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 21:30

Lace trim?

Could crochet some in a lightweight yarn.

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 21:50

I can do an Obi, I have some old copies of Sew Hip with patterns for one and they are quite flattering for large guts, no?

What black ribbon do you mean? I like the idea of adding velvet or silky fabric to up the glam factor.
What about using cut off balck belt (would leave me with a good metre or so) trimming it with something and making a corsage, have beady type thingds as well.

Girlie night out now cancelled MIL comes first, but this can be for my birthday dress!

I normally wear my MN hush puppies (I won them from MN) which are a burgundythings (sound vile, don; they)
Need to make a bag as well...hmm...

OP posts:
JackBauer · 22/04/2010 21:54

Corsage + Obi bit much though. Could add corsage to bag for funk factor.
Need to rummage through fabric for something for the obi, I have a lush pink tattoo fabric that would be amusing

like this but this colour background

OP posts:
KnottyLocks · 22/04/2010 22:01

That would be fun. Also have that Sewhip. I think the obi would be lovely. In time you could make different ones- easy to change the look of the dress that way.

Was thinking of the black velvet on the V neck of the dress. Would look lovely. If you've got good norkage...why not?

JackBauer · 22/04/2010 22:16

Am ransacking brains for any black velevt in stash, I don't have any

WIll have a look for some wide black velvet ribbon though, that would work, no? WOuld look good, I agree.

I haven't made anything for myself to wear in years and no I can't afford to buy clothes and am trying to lose weigh (6lb in a wekk, get me) will need to start chopping into things too!
