I finished a mosaic tonight.
I'll grout it tomorrow and it goes in an exhibition on sunday.
Yay. What a relief to get it finished.

Pics on my profile.

Also, if anyone sees MrVibrating around can you direct him to this thread as he helped alot with the design. There's some ancient egyptian astronomy explained in the mosaic. Ver ver complicated.

Oh it is beautiful dragon, what a lot of work though

[very very impressed emoticon]

MollieO · 19/05/2009 23:11

Looks fab. It's a shame that the pictures aren't larger to see the detail. Are you going to use the same colour grout throughout? Where do you exhibit?

smallchange · 19/05/2009 23:11

That's fantastic.

littlelamb · 19/05/2009 23:11

Tis beautiful

FrankMustard · 19/05/2009 23:12

That is fantastic! Well done to you! You must feel really satisfied!

nevergoogledragonbutter · 19/05/2009 23:13

it's a bugger to photographs because it's quite reflective. Lots of coloured mirror in it too that means you get a picture of your silhouette on it.
i'm going to use a grey grout on the foreground and pyramids and black grout for the outline of the pyramids and the sky.
the exhibition is here in exeter.

Wow!
Crafty kudos!
Where is the exhibition?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 19/05/2009 23:15

OP posts:
nevergoogledragonbutter · 19/05/2009 23:18

i do feel satisfaction at getting it finished, especially with 2 kids and an almost full time proper job.
yay me!

Wow. Am very very impressed. I did a course years ago with Emma Biggs. Made one big mosiac (took bloody ages to finish) but never done anything since. I remember finding it infuriating and theraputic in equal measure.

Hope the exhibition goes well.

MollieO · 19/05/2009 23:20

mosaic - I can spell really.

MollieO · 19/05/2009 23:22

therapeutic - too tired to correct any other spelling mistakes.

nevergoogledragonbutter · 19/05/2009 23:22

Ooh Emma Biggs eh?
Wasn't she on Kirstie Allsop goes shopping this week?

I absolutely will not be doing any more 'big' mosaics. I know i said that last year, but really really really. Small ones from now on.
...unless some millionaire commissions something of course.

aaaaah the focussing on tiny repeated processes at the same time as making minute adjustments and decisions...over and over again...bliss!

(extra kudos based on 2 DCs and almost FT job )

nevergoogledragonbutter · 19/05/2009 23:27

I've been working on this constantly for the last 4 days, and haven't felt so relaxed in ages. So definitely therapeutic.
I took up mosaic to fend off PND 4 years ago, it works.

Do you have a separate room or what do you do to stop dcs walking on the shards of glass that go flying when you cut the tiles (or is that just me?)?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 19/05/2009 23:33

I usually do it on a architects drawing table and keep it quite high.
I also cut everything in a wooden box, or if using clippers i cut in a box with a clear bag over it.
I don't do it when the kids are around though.

My 2 year olds calls it 'Mummy's Sharps'

OP posts:
MollieO · 19/05/2009 23:41

Doh, never thought about a box and bag. What a good idea. I've been put off doing anymore because I just assumed that ds would end up stepping on something sharp that I'd missed in clearing up.

I miss doing something that is so totally absorbing.

boomirrin · 20/05/2009 00:46

God, that might have taken you forever but it is absolutely beautiful [ said sadly as, as far as I went was 'A' Level art]

frustratedmom · 20/05/2009 00:56

Am very impressed! Don't think I have the imagination though to try mosaic and will stick to my sewing.

Enjoy the exhibition!

MrsMerryHenry · 20/05/2009 14:18

Dragon, you're amazing. What a beautiful mosaic. I am really, truly impressed, you talented thing.

How are you doing re work stuff? Any progress/ more clarity?

nevergoogledragonbutter · 20/05/2009 20:19

well boomirrin, you got further with art than i did. I gave it up, despite it being my favourite subject at 13 in favour of more academic subjects.
what a plonker.

will post later mrsmerryhenry.
