Stitch and bitch thread #9. I have pressing concerns

Welcome welcome!

I've not made anything for ages after I screwed up the same thing twice. I'm gonna have another blimmin crack at it though! I've reconnected with another hobby and work is seriously getting in the way of everything I want to do, darn it.

They hate being cuddled. They love human company and follow us round but cuddling is a step too far

Rosenspants · 30/06/2024 17:47

They’re gorgeous @Jins ,

Rosenspants · 30/06/2024 17:55

No sewing this weekend as I’m away til tomorrow. Didn’t stop me spending a small fortune at Clothkits, though. 2 patterns including a cute, reversible baby dress plus a meter each of toning fabric; SH7 free range slacks and an embroidery set for DSis. What a gorgeous shop.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 30/06/2024 21:07

Beautiful cats.

I made another pair of Safiya trousers using some Rag Market viscose from my scrap pile. They’re too big, but should be an easy fix.

I also found a men’s Ralph Lauren striped shirt in a charity shop. I’ve cut off half of the sleeve length and elasticated them for a nice puff effect and have cut off the collar and bias bound the neck. I was going to add ribbon ties but I actually prefer it left more masculine for wearing over swimwear on holiday.

Frumpyunicorn · 30/06/2024 22:10

Lovely cat photos.

I have got no sewing done but have been pattern buying. I got the zadie dress and jumpsuit and a blouse pattern (the heron blouse). I also found a really cute free pattern for pillowcase pyjama shorts and have got a load of old pillowcases so my girls have had fun choosing their pillowcases abd taping the pattern together and my eldest is going to have a go at making her own (with a lot of help from me). I am going to try and wash the linen too.

Allthegoodnamestakken · 01/07/2024 09:28

@Jins very cute sewing assistants. Despite there efforts my canine assistants are not allowed to enter the craft room until they learn to wipe their feet after digging holes. Currently they choose to sit in the doorway and look sad instead of learning said feet wiping skill 🙄

I had a productive weekend sewing, made very good progress on my quilt, it is very relaxing when you get going I just wish someone would come do the pinning an ironing for me, I love the repetitiveness of the cutting and sewing lines but I drew blood several times lining up seams and pining.

CrimsonAlligator · 01/07/2024 11:45

I finished the Atelier Jupe Frida over the weekend

That's lovely, @CrimsonAlligator though I had to zoom in because it looked like bananas on my screen :D. I haven't made my pattern up into anything, yet, despite having had it for a while.

Jins · 01/07/2024 16:09

Some lovely projects are appearing again!

Another PAM disaster to report. I ordered cream cotton jersey to line some virtually transparent cream patterned jersey they sent me. What they’ve sent is pink. I hate pink as it makes my skin look as if I died of liver failure weeks ago. I’d make knickers out of it but I don’t think it stretches enough

Gosh I had no idea they were still going. My mum made a lot of their kits in the 70s/early 80s

twobluechickens · 01/07/2024 17:11

Gorgeous @CrimsonAlligator ! It’s such a lovely pattern. I have finally finished my Style Arc coat, will upload a picture later.

Rosenspants · 01/07/2024 17:35

@Brefugee Thier history is very interesting https://www.clothkits.co.uk/pages/50-years-of-clothkits

A friend who knew the new owner alerted me to the shop that now exists...it's a lot more than just the kits though and I haven't actually bought any of those as yet...I just go a bit mad with the fabric and the patterns....

Lovely blouse, @CrimsonAlligator

50 Years of Clothkits

The heritage of Clothkits spans 50 years, having been originally founded in 1968 by Anne Kennedy around the kitchen table. After leaving Camberwell College of Art, Anne came up with the simple and ingenious idea of printing dressmaking pieces straight...

Brefugee · 01/07/2024 18:29

oh thank you!

Brefugee · 01/07/2024 18:31

they partner with The Assembly Line?! interesting, i've a few of their patterns ready to make. I just cannot motivate myself to sew clothes :(

bookbook · 01/07/2024 18:41

Lovely makes .
How annoying about the pink/cream jersey - I hate having to guess colour on a screen , its never true to life.
I had such a busy week last week , so no time to sew , but sat down and finished off a pair of matching ( but different sized) rompers. Two of my nieces (sisters) have had babies. And boy it was a close call on thread chicken , but I won 😊

They’re so cute @bookbook ! I played thread chicken with my coat and just won. Bought another reel just in case but didn’t need it after all.

Frumpyunicorn · 01/07/2024 20:34

I love the rompers, and also love that blouse and fabric @CrimsonAlligator
Looking forward to seeing the coat too!

I am currently helping my daughter use the rotary cutter to cut out her pattern pieces for her pillowcase pyjamas and we will sew them together at the weekend

CrimsonAlligator · 01/07/2024 22:25

Thanks all! I don’t think I can unsee the bananas now 😂

@twobluechickens when you made yours, presumably you needed to ease in the sleeves too? I was a bit confused as the instructions on mine don’t mention anything about that.

Jins · 01/07/2024 22:37

Bananas has to be better than pan scourers @CrimsonAlligator and after some comments on a possible swim Lycra combo recently I now can’t see anything else.

Such a useful group. If I hadn’t posted the pic I could have had people thinking I was sponsored by spontex when I was on holiday 🤦‍♀️

(I still like the fabric though)

twobluechickens · 01/07/2024 22:58

@CrimsonAlligator good question, despite making three I have no recollection of doing the sleeves! Having just checked the instructions I have, it doesn’t say much but I just did my usual two lines of long stitches and gathered them slightly, and that seems to work.

PickAChew · 02/07/2024 10:13

Cute rompers!

I'm playing an extended game of thread chicken over two machines (two colours) with this project. I've emptied 2 reels with just a bit on them and now I've got 2 almost empty bobbins and not enough of the right coloured thread to fill both. I should really buy some more of the thread and save myself the angst, as I still have loads of this fabric left, anyhow. I might just pick out something colourful that's already wound for the reverse of the rest of the topstitching, though.

Jins · 03/07/2024 08:44

Those rompers are gorgeous.

I’ve had an enforced break from sewing as I’ve had a vitreous detachment in my other eye and it’s all flashing lights and floaters again. I shouldn’t be surprised as my eyes are the same age after all. I’m going to try putting a shirred ‘waistband’ on an unflattering tank dress today as it doesn’t matter if it goes wrong

Allthegoodnamestakken · 03/07/2024 09:49

After some pattern help! I bought this Jacket on vinted recently and I love it, it's a perfect fit and the shape is really flattering on me. However as it's pink it doesn't go with much in my wardrobe. So I was thinking I could attempt to make it in Navy, it's a really lightweight cotton material, anybody know a pattern that is similar? or have a fool proof way I could copy it.

InMySpareTime · 03/07/2024 10:16

@Allthegoodnamestakken can you unpick it and use it as a template for a nicer coloured jacket, or just dye it a nicer colour?

Allthegoodnamestakken · 03/07/2024 11:42

@InMySpareTime I actually want to keep the pink, I bought it to go with a couple of specific outfits and it works perfectly for that. I'd just like a second one in a more practical colour.
