In this weather i'll probably wear it with thick tights.

Finally the internet spying algorithm seems to be working for me as the pattern has reduced to £3.63 for me this morning! Creepy but i'll take it Grin.

Cute dresses!

No sewing yet but my Pound Fabrics order of thermal blackout lining arrived. It’s really nice stuff. I made a Roman blind for our bedroom a million years ago and it’s starting to look really shabby so I’m going to break it up and reuse the bits. Can I just mention that I hate making Roman blinds?

Still working on restoring my free leather recliner. I thought I’d finished it but noticed the seat cushion sagged a bit so I’ve taken it apart and I’m now trying to work out the tension required for webbing to support it. It’s been a fab project and seeing as they are getting on for £2k new I’m even more keen to get it right. It’s one of these

NutellaEllaElla · 01/10/2022 09:16

You are brave and persistent for attempting that fancy chair project.

GnomeDePlume · 01/10/2022 09:33

I agree, that is a brave project @Jins .

My backing fabric for Christmas cushions is now dyed a lovely forest green. I used unbleached calico so it took the dye really well. At the same time it isn't perfectly even so there is a subtle marbling effect which I really like.

Allotment this morning to pick the last of the tomatoes so cushions are this afternoon's project.

Jins · 01/10/2022 09:37

Before and after pics. It’s apart again now

If anyone is interested in what I’ve done to the leather…

It’s had a really good clean, a light sanding and the worst patches were filled with leather filler. Then a very light sanding and three coats of Clinic Leather Repair... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07V8PLSSQ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share This stuff

Time consuming but easy to do. The tricky bit will be sorting the seat cushion but I have a plan 🤣

GnomeDePlume · 01/10/2022 12:00

Oh wow, that is an amazing transformation @Jins !

What is your plan for supporting the seat?

I got a seat support on Amazon for a Chesterfield armchair but that goes under a cushion.

Jins · 01/10/2022 16:03

@GnomeDePlume I’ve taken the cover off and sliced the foam to see how it’s sprung. I was planning on making a network of webbing but I’ve discovered that you can buy identical upholstery springs on eBay. So I’ll replace them, glue the foam together and put an extra layer on top.

I hate those sleeves with the rolled up ends that fasten with a strip of fabric and a button so I cut them off and added some pink cuffs to my boring mumsy blouse. This is the first cuff done.

Looks really cute @SewinginIreland!

I finished my last Gioiello top today. I used a scuba fabric and it's a LOT less giving than the previous 2 so breathing room is actually restricted whereas it wasn't with the others. I've leaving it unhemmed both at the bottom and the sleeves as they could really do with being longer.

I bought some green felt and Mod Podge glue with the intention of making Christmas decoration brussel sprouts like these but it went horribly wrong from the off. The glue did a terrible job. It both soaked through the felt, discolouring it and also, didn't stick anything to anything. wtf. Back to the drawing board I guess. There must be a better glue out there.

Also, I want to send my new dress pattern to a A0 printing company, but I can't save any layer selections (I 'save as' but the settings don't save when I re-open). Does anyone else try to filter out irrelevant layers when sending pdf patterns to professional printers?

I've sent all sorts of requests to CLC Essex who I usually use for printing A0 - they do it for £1.50 a sheet which is about the cheapest I've found. There's a little comments box when you order.

NutellaEllaElla · 02/10/2022 20:51

Thank you Pasta, that's super helpful

I love that website pasta, so cute with all their instruction booklets and pattern packs. I wished I had more to print!

I've prepped and cut my next projects - a pair of jogging bottoms for MrKitty and a cropped tatb Nora sweatshirt that I just about squeezed out if the remaininder of the 3m.

They probably won't get sewn for weeks the evening light has gone and my weekends are bust for a while.

GnomeDePlume · 03/10/2022 07:59

@SewinginIreland I love that cuff idea!

I have made my first Christmas cushion. Another four to go. All the front panels are sewn.

The back panels are calico which I have dyed dark green.

@GnomeDePlume Thank you.

I’ve got a plastic box of Christmas fabrics/fat quarters etc. and I really like your Christmas cushion. Simple design and very effective!

I was thinking about making a Christmas table runner this year but now I’ve seen yours, a few cushion covers might be nice too. 🤔

I need to get planning now as I usually leave it too late and end up rushing my Christmas gifts and decorations.

Wildernesstips · 03/10/2022 09:03

Love what you have done with the sleeve SewinginIreland. And those two dresses look great Pasta.

Jins, I can’t believe that is the same leather - it looks amazing.

CrimsonAlligator · 03/10/2022 13:52

Hey everyone, I’d like to join you. I’ve not sewn anything for a good few years, but after being underwhelmed by what’s available in the shops at the moment, I think it’s time to dust off my sewing machine.

I’m going to start with making a skirt - one that’s the right length and shape for me! I’m planning to draft the pattern myself as I know exactly what I want, but can’t find it in pattern form either. As I’m completely out of practice, I think it might take a little while and a few practice runs, so it’d be good to have some company! 😊

pastabest · 03/10/2022 16:07

Welcome Crimson what kind of skirt are you wanting to make?

Jins · 03/10/2022 16:57

Thanks @Wildernesstips. I’m really pleased with how it’s looking. The new surface is lasting well, it’s like magic really.

Welcome @CrimsonAlligator

NutellaEllaElla · 03/10/2022 20:29

Welcome @CrimsonAlligator , how do you know how to pattern draft?

Welcome @CrimsonAlligator , how do you know how to pattern draft?

If it's something you are interested in I highly recommend the Winifred Aldrich books. It's a bit like making a dot to dot puzzle for yourself only you get a pattern block at the end of it.

I quite enjoy pattern drafting but there's such a wide range of good indie patterns now I rarely bother. I have drafted blocks (slopers?) which I use to hold up against patterns to see how much I need to move a bust dart etc though so they are helpful for that.

pastabest · 03/10/2022 22:25

Oh no. Nooooooo

I've just come across the Sew Liberated Arthur Pants on Instagram.

HOW have I never seen them before.

I want.

I have so many other projects I'm supposed to be making and I'm totally going to end up abandoning them all. Someone tell me I'm going to look like a clown and talk me out of them!!

CrimsonAlligator · 03/10/2022 22:31

Thanks for the welcome everyone ☺️

@NutellaEllaElla , I did an online course in drafting skirt patterns. I’d made a few skirts before, but struggled with the fit, so thought it might be easier to just learn to draft the patterns myself!

@pastabest, I’m planning to make something along the lines of the skirt in the picture, with a few changes. Not sure about what fabric I’m going to use yet, but I’ll have some time to think about that while I make the sloper and draft the pattern...
