Hmmm... Now, how big does the hole in the middle need to be in relation to the outside? I'm thinking of about 2.5 inch outside diameter because that's the size of my little Ikea coffee mugs and I can draw round them ...

lucykate · 16/11/2007 12:04

actually, here's some instructions for just using your fingers, makes small ones though

oops, here

how's that crafting mojo btw??, any sign or has the bat still flown away with it?

In the 4th picture of that finger-pompom thing, she clearly has a third hand!

Mojo is still missing, although pompoms which I can make slumped on the sofa are appealing. And I'm keen to try owls too if I can find the right fabric...

Gingermonkey · 16/11/2007 18:02

never mind the 3rd hand, soupy, if I was going to post photos of my hands on t'internet I'd have got a manicure first!!! (my hands are that awful they are generally not allowed out in public, and are often left at home in a drawer)
AND another thing, that pom pom was too perfect for a finger pom pom, I made one the other week for the kitten to play with and it was awful, I snipped so much in order to make it all round and pretty that there was none left! My bet is that she bought it from the shop, and the one she made was put in the bin

SoupDragon · 19/11/2007 12:47

I made a fabulous pompom from that yarn that is a-finge-of-fluff-on-a-string IYSWIM! Pure white an gorgeous. Unfortunately I made it a little too full and it used an entire ball Not great for a wreath It also fluffs everywhere when you shake it!

I also tried making a pompom out of scoubidou plastic. Couldn't get them to bend properly when tied round the middle IYSWIM - ended up with a corn sheaf! Thought it would be kind of funky (and it would have been had it worked).

Those owls earlier on would be fab as robins BTW.

SoupDragon · 19/11/2007 12:47

a-fringe-of-fluff-on-a-string

SoupDragon · 19/11/2007 12:48

If only I hadn't misplaced the pedal for my sewing machine....

Gingermonkey · 19/11/2007 20:32

Soupy, your mojo may have been lost - but the owls as robins idea is GENIUS. Next week's mission - to make some robins. I shall fill my home with banners this year, and DH will tut loudly (because he hates christmas decorations - they apparently ruin the look of his beautiful home )

SoupDragon · 20/11/2007 12:52

I've cut out all my robins from felt. They had to be beige (and red, obviously) because I had no brown though...

All I need now is the pedal for my sewing machine and I can make them. Hand stitching didn't work neatly enough for my linking. They do look kind of owl shaped. I think they need to be rounder to look 100% robin. I think black pipe cleaners or something sticking out the bottom for legs would help.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2007 12:52

Maybe the bottom needs to be round rather than flat...?

SoupDragon · 20/11/2007 12:56

Oh, and if you added wings to your dinosaurs, they'd be dragons...

Neither were the imagingermonkey.blogspot.com/dinosaurs I was referring to

Only the robins were meant to be festive.

SoupDragon · 20/11/2007 13:06

dinosaurs even

No diaoramas, Dior, no.

Would a string of white dragons with halos be festive?
