Hello all!
I looked for a thread but the one I found was from 2015!
Anyway, I have within the last few days found that I really enjoy coloring in. I have no fancy pencils or books as I’m a beginner but wanting some recommendations please and to also be reassured that I’m not silly! I currently use crayola pencils and have an animal coloring book.
Thanks all!

@Shantotto thank you! It’s from Worlds within Worlds by Kerby Rosanes

LoopyLoulley · 16/10/2020 19:34

I'd love to but I've just not had time to do any! Fingers crossed I can soon since my youngest has finally started full time at school but I'm really supposed to be decorating. Not quite as much fun! I do love seeing other people's though to inspire me.

SpeedofaSloth · 16/10/2020 19:36

@Madein1995 I think I have that book, it's nice Smile

I love colouring. So relaxing and I become very aware of my breathing when I do it. It's almost meditative.
I enjoy colouring mandalas. They are particularly soothing with the repetition. I have crayola felt tips, caran dache pencils and some wax crayons, and just ring the changes.
I don't do all the fancy shading but some of your pictures have inspired to try.

I spotted some lovely Crayola adult (nothing rude!) colouring books in home bargains the other day.

There are so many, @PinkDaydreams. I get mine from amazon usually. Also have one from The Works which is nice.
There are some proper 'adult' ones which are quite funny - a sweary one for instance!
I just really like patterns.

RightOnTheEdge · 17/10/2020 16:27

Lovely thread OP! I haven't coloured in for a while. I have been using colouring apps on my phone and keep thinking how terrible that is!
I love to read and colour but I just seem to listen to audio books while I'm rushing around and don't even sit and colour properly anymore, just tap on a screen Blush

@WhatTheFuckHappenedHere yours are amazing. I love that Worlds within Worlds book it's gorgeous!

I really like Thaneeya Mcardle books.
I have a Day of the Dead one and a Love one.
My favourite is Dapper animals.
Sadly Mumsnet won't let me post photos at the moment for some reason.

So I thought it had been a bit quiet on here lately and I've managed to finish these this week so thought I'd share them with you. The flowers is the first pencils I've done in years and I'm chuffed with it. Then I found the Hogwarts picture that I'd half done in pens so I finished that in pencils too. Some parts I'm happy with but I think it's missing something. Please feel free to make suggestions!
I hope to see more of your creations too.

I'm thinking it might be going to bring out Johanna Basford's Christmas book soon. Feels like we're starting Christmas preparations earlier this year, so that might get me in the mood.

Just need to catch up on my temperature blanket (I'm up to August!) so that I can do other creative things as well!

I've found my people. I love adult colouring books but does anyone have any suggestions for books where the segments are bigger than the Joanna Besford. I'm dyspraxic and I find her designs to intricate to enjoy.

WhatTheFuckHappenedHere · 28/11/2020 19:17

Hanna Karlzon is amazing!

RightOnTheEdge · 28/11/2020 22:28

I love to colour, both colouring books and to make cards. I use stamps for many of the images and mostly use copic type markers (alcohol markers). They are blendable felt tip type. Very vibrant colours. I learned to use them by watching colourists on youtube. The markers are expensive. I have about 30 Copic Ciao markers. They are cheaper than the regular ones but can't be refilled.

I also use watercolour and pencils.

The downside to copics is they bleed through. But the blending is great once you get the idea.

If you are interested a wman named Kelly Latavola makes cards but her copic colouring is incredible. There are lots of her videos on Youtube.

Leila Duly does beautiful floral books. This is her Instagram with lots of examples that people have done:

I love adult colouring books!

I'd definitely recommend Colouring Heaven magazines they're available in WHSmiths or on subscription. They focus on either a particular artist e.g. Hannah Lynn or Hanna Kalzon(both very popular artists) or on a particular theme with different artists e.g. they may focus on Christmas or Halloween with different artists.

Plus they are one sided, which is good if you like alcohol markers.

CrochetBug · 26/12/2020 00:03

Hi all and wow. What amazing work! I've got a few adult coloring books, but cheap pencils. I've ordered a journalling bible with some of my Christmas money, but wanted to get some decent pencils to use. However I know nothing about pencils! I need something bendable. Maybe some watercolour ones (are they the ones you can use and then 'paint' over with water to blend them?)
I heard that black widow pencils were good, but would cost a lot to get them all. Are they worth the extra money? Or are Faber Castell as good? Or something else?
Thanks Xmas Smile

xsquared · 27/12/2020 18:03

Hello,
I bought myself received Worlds within Worlds colouring book and WHSmith artist colourng pencils for Christmas and I am so excited to explore the book with my new pencils.

The pencils themselves were reduced from £19.99 to £9.99 but they seem to be very good value and blendable to create new hues. Adult colouring is something that I've restarted again as a way of coping with depression, and reducing the amount of time going down internet rabbit holes which makes me feel worse.

Hoping to learn and share things on this thread.

Furries · 10/01/2021 02:21

Millie Marotta books are great too (they’re all good, my least favourite is the Curious Creatures one). Will take some photos tomorrow to pop on here.

I’ve found I don’t like using pencils. I got a great set of Gelmushta pens. The gel pens don’t bleed through the paper. Got a set of 120 pens (plus a refill of every colour). Love the effects - neon, shimmer, glitter etc.
