Does anyone have a JANOME sewing machine?

And can you tell me how to work it?

I just bought one off a car boot sale. It works (as in there is a noise when I switch it on and press the foot pedal)

I can't get the needle to thread, I can't get it to pick up the cotton from the bottom reel, and I can't get the needle to go up and down more than once (either manually or with the foot pedal)

It is model JF1014, which I suspect probably stopped being produced in 1976 but anyone with a similar one should be able to give me a bit of a hand???

Have looked on the Janome website, and tis not much help.

thanks
xx

Does the inner wheel of the drive wheel (with the belt around it on the right hand side ) feel loose ? If so tighten it up. I have a rarely used New Home of similar vintage.

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:11

what belt?

nothing feels loose, though

I've got it all loosened up, and the needle goes up and down, up and down, up and down.... Have threaded the needle (well, dp did, I can't even see the hole) but still can't get it to pick up the bottom thread.

Please help me

Please, before I throw it out of the window and go back to hand sewing everything

do you know much about sewing machines - is the bobbin threaded correctly?

Lucycat · 29/04/2007 16:34

have you heard that Sam Allardyce has left Bolton? Is he coming to City do you think?

sorry 'bout that!

Can't help with the sewing machine,I am a complete dunce with sewing!

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:36

iota: bugger all and I don't know - how can I tell?

lucycat: I hadn't heard that, no.... hmm... I would be happy with Allardyce, I suppose. I just wish that they would keep a manager for more than five minutes.

Twould be interesting to know how many managers we have had whilst that Scottish bloke's been over there

hi squonk is the bottom thread reel inserted properly?

i got a new one from netto's for £50 the other week and i've used it once

iota · 29/04/2007 16:38

see step 9 for bobbin insertion

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:39

iota: that's already open on another tab!!!!

OP posts:
iota · 29/04/2007 16:40

if teh thread is not picking up, try inserting teh bobbin in round the other way i ie clockwise instead of anticlockwise or vice versa

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:44

hi J20 - come round and do it for me???

have got everything threaded now, I think. Tried to start sewing and it made a big banging noise. I presume it's not supposed to do that?

OP posts:
fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:45

The big banging noise was the needle snapping.

OP posts:
iota · 29/04/2007 16:46

things not going too well then Squonk ?

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:46

And if dp says "I don't think it's supposed to do that" one more time, I will chuck the effing thing at his head

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 16:48

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:49

no, I didn't - haven't really looked at any other threads.... do us a link and I'll have a proper nosey

OP posts:
iota · 29/04/2007 16:50

there should be a screw above the needle which you loosen and the needle drops out

fryalot · 29/04/2007 16:52

needle changed.
