Here's my first FO:

Scarf in super soft (but super shreddy!) Debbie bliss Roma, for my lovley SIL. Hope she likes it, and can live with the shredding! Planning to do another scarf with this yarn in Teal, as already had the yarn, no recipient as yet. Making a wrap, and may make a little something for DD time permitting.

What's on your needles/hook?

What is worsted wool? I keep seeing it in patterns and have no idea what it is DK, 4ply, chunky etc makes sense but worsted Confused

Some amazing patterns and projects. I have project Envy but i am just clearly my backlog of wips and am not allowed to add any new projects. Sad

Callmecordelia · 28/11/2015 03:09

Worsted is an American yarn weight, that is slightly imprecise. For a lot of patterns you can substitute Aran, however, worsted is often slightly thinner, and there's something called "light worsted" too, which is closer to DK. The recommended needle or hook size for the pattern should give you a clue - 5mm/5.5mm, Aran should be fine, 4.5mm slightly more tricky, as an aran might knit to a denser fabric at that tension.

There are more and more worsted yarns available in the UK now, Rowan have launched one, and Cascade 220 is available online from Wool warehouse etc.

Another US yarn weight you might see is Sport, or 5 ply. It's somewhere in between a 4 ply and a DK. Debbie Bliss baby cashmerino is a sport weight yarn.

Thank you that makes a more sense, and explains why a pattern I had looked wrong with the hook size that was recommended by the pattern for the wool I had to do the pattern.

Welcome Teas, that shawl is lovely!

I'm working on my own Christmas gift now, Skyland by Martin Storey, I can't post a link but if you type it into ravelry you can see it.

Just found this thread. Nice to see what others are making. I am not making Christmas presents as people don't seem to understand the work involved or cost of yarn and assume you're being a cheapskate.

I've been making hats for a Christmas charity craft stall- monsters, owls and Christmas puddings. Plus some snowflakes. All in crochet.

Once I've finished those I'm planning to crochet myself an Acer shawl, then pick up the knitting needles for the first time in a couple of years to make dh a scarf (probably cables, I love cables).

Oh just found this! I've not knitted for years and have been pushed into it because I couldn't find any nice interesting, stretchy stockings anywhere!!

So I have raided the wool. I'm struggling a bit with the foot and heel and so on as I've no idea what I'm doing, but here is the effort so far Xmas Grin

and yes, my snowmen look evil, and no, it isn't deliberate...

Love the Minion hats btw! Epic!

I'm knitting a dachshund for dh - to go in his stocking. It's become a tradition that I put a knitted cuddly toy in there for him - previous years I made him a little sheep, and a little T-Rex, and last year I crocheted a Happypotamus for him.

This year I'm knitting an Ysolda Teague pattern - Poklon the dachshund. I am just about to start the neck, head and front legs, and it looks pretty complicated, so please keep your fingers crossed that I can do it a) in time for Christmas and b) without too many sweary words!

Stasie · 06/12/2015 18:41

SDTG I think that sounds wonderful Grin I love dachshunds. And the T Rex is inspired!

Your DH is very lucky.

Hereslookingatchoo · 06/12/2015 19:28

stasie for someone who hasn't knitted for years that's fantastic! Go on Ravelry and look up fish lips kiss heel for the heel bit - easy peasy, no messing around with flaps and gussets and only 80p or something to buy ($1). For the toes use Kitchener stitch or just crochet them!

Stasie · 06/12/2015 19:38

Oh, wow, thank you SO much! Have found the page and it looks really really good Xmas Smile

I will be purchasing forthwith!

ahem, there is a little puckering and so on in my patterns and I am making most of them up as I go along with a few borrowed from other people's designs (well guessing from pics of finished ones!) I hope my 2yo isn't terribly bothered...and I'm going to have to line it as well. Yikes.

Thank you for being kind though!!

bruffin · 24/12/2015 11:17

That's great, bruffin!! Ds2 is looking over my shoulder and says 'that's really neat!' He now wants me to knit him one.

AlbusPercival · 24/12/2015 14:02

Still haven't finished the blanket :( though as DH pointed out said friend gave us a lovely wedding present 3 weeks short of our first anniversary she won't mind too much

hazeyjane · 24/12/2015 14:11

ilI am crocheting an emoji for each dc (a poop, love eyes and a pirate)

A sprout hat for dd2

A hat for dh

Some skull cherries for my sister to stitch on a cardigan

And some snowflake/peppermint candy bunting for me!

bruffin · 24/12/2015 14:12

Thanks SDTG
I had to knit it in secret when Dd wasnt around. I also adapted it from a dk to super chunky so even though i cut the stitches down by a third it still came out very big.
Ds wants me to do a game of thrones version now.Shock

findingmyfeet12 · 27/12/2015 21:34

I just wanted to post a pic of the first thing I've ever crocheted. (Hope the picture comes out OK as I've never posted one before). It's a little cardigan for a 6 month old girl. I'm feeling pretty smug right now.

Finding - that's so sweet.

Well done!

bruffin · 27/12/2015 21:39

That so cute finding. I cant crochet at all

findingmyfeet12 · 27/12/2015 21:59

Thank you! My first success has really given me a taste for it. I don't know why I didn't get into this sooner.

Rpj16 · 02/01/2016 12:25

ThefurryMenace Just reading through knitting section (bringing up an old thread). Did you make the Rowan Skyland scarf/shawl? I just bought the book for this specific pattern! How did it go?

AlbusPercival · 08/01/2016 12:40

Ridiculously late but finally finished my blanket project. Very pleased with it!

Bruffin - can I ask where you found the pattern for the Quidditch sweater, please? Ds2 wants one (he is 20), and I'd like to knit it for his birthday in May - I was going to use a generic sweater pattern, and aran yarn, with fisherman's rib.

Oh - and this is the finished dachshund I made for dh - we have called him Kevin.
