Mumsnet Bunting Project

OnlyWantsOne · 27/06/2011 10:29

My friend's village has a "bunting project"

everyone in the village is making one bit, or a few bits, and then they are all being put together by some little old lady and used to decorate their new community centre.

I thought it might be nice (if there are any takers?) to do a MN BUNTING?

we could then donate it - give it - auction it between MN'rs and give proceeds to a charity?

I'd love to organise it, and attach all the bloody bits together

so who wants to do a triangle?

Any one want to help me organise it? Dimensions of the triangles?

We should decorate the triangle with some thing personal and special to you, obv you have to be happy to have it seen (and owned) by some one else?

Any one up for it?

EggyAllenPoe · 27/06/2011 21:39

how about an embroidered picture of terry wogans cock?

OnlyWantsOne · 27/06/2011 21:42

I was thinking

You make two triangles 10" across top 13" down from middle

Decorate how you want in a personal way to you. Appliqué / patchwork / photo what ever - then sew two bits right sides together, sew two long sides and turn the right way out - and press Smile

Remember the very top if your design may be covered by the tape used to attach them all together Smile

Fab! I can do that! Can the 2 sides be different colours or should they match?

shreddinghippo · 27/06/2011 21:51

Ok I have made one. Picture on my profile (I hope).

My finished piece came out just short of 10" accross the top, and is exactly 12" down the centre. Gah, I really really need to get myself a rotary cutter and get my measurements more exact.
Well it's a start anyway, I will make a couple more and send you the best one!

The fabric is tiny strawberries.

Erm... dont think I will be very good at embroidering Terry Wogans cock. I'll leave that for someone else to attempt! Anyone?

OnlyWantsOne · 27/06/2011 22:27

Fantastic !! I will make one and put proper details tomorrow. Night all Smile

Kryshees · 27/06/2011 22:39

I'm in!! I might happen to have some fabric lying around blushes pm me once you have agreed dimensions! X

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 27/06/2011 23:00

I'd love to be part of this.

Purple - I still haven't sent you my last lot of squares - if I bung them in the post, can they go on the blanket for raffling? Blush

If nobody has decided upon a charity yet, can I suggest Kids Company?

www.kidsco.org.uk/ If anyone hasn't heard of them, they work with vulnerable and neglected children....the founder Camila Batmanghelidjh worked alone in South London for years as she tried to create opportunities for some of the countries most vulnerable children...what she does for them is to provide support in cases where they have none due to family breakdown....things like meals after school and help finding a flat if they become homeless....and much more.

OnlyWantsOne · 28/06/2011 10:39

mumbling I think that sounds the right sort of thing - but MNHQ said they would get back to me re a charity :) I will email them and suggest it though :)

The blanket money will go to www.winstonswish.org.uk/ which seemed relevant...

MumblingRagDoll · 28/06/2011 12:38

So are the pennants supposed to be 10" by 13"? or aren't the dimensions decied upon yet?

MumblingRagDoll · 28/06/2011 12:39

I might applique some "nice ham" on one of mine! Grin

OnlyWantsOne · 28/06/2011 12:40

Mumbling yes we agreed on 10 x 13

that sound ok?

OP posts:
shreddinghippo · 28/06/2011 12:42

Sorry to be a pain... 10 x 13 finished? Or cut to that size before sewing?

OnlyWantsOne · 28/06/2011 12:44

stillsittinghippo · 28/06/2011 12:46

Ok thanks it's all a bit muddly for me still, only just worked out how to work the sewing machine!

MumblingRagDoll · 28/06/2011 12:46

Right....that's clear. Where do we send them please? Are we sending a few? So it's long....or will there be a limit?

CadleCrap · 28/06/2011 12:51

I'm in

Shredding may have to borrow your rotary cutter to get the dimensions correct Wink

OnlyWantsOne · 28/06/2011 12:59

I think your going to send them to me?

And I will put them all together - I dont mind how many you do / colour schmem etc I just love the idea they are all individual and special :) as they arent big and people arent making lots, they will all be special and unique!

Count me in :)

Just about to make some bunting for dd1 anyway so more than happy to do a couple of extra triangles

She's asked for Cath Kidston/chintzy type bunting in pink/white, so hope that's OK

Empusa · 28/06/2011 13:11

I'd love to join in

deepfriedcupcake · 28/06/2011 14:06

I'll have a go - the edges might be a bit wobbly as I'll be handstitching. I might even attempt embroidering a deep fried cupcake too.
